Main rod bearings I hope it's not a wrist pin !! disks. & drums & a belt & a window regulator & motor by mid next month it will be a reliable car again it's work in progress as soon as I get done with the mechanical part of the vibe I'll start on the body That will take a year ! I did plasti dip (paint) the rockers it looks alot better but it doesn't wear well so I'll just keep a spare can around I did it with 2 cans now im thinking what clear plasti dip over black looks like ? Or possibly wear better , I'll learn how to prep for paint well something like a new driver door filling the 6 bullet holes & 30 dings & a hood it's not that bad but after I seen that so cool black vibe with scoops on genvibe sign me up then I'll figure a way to get 6.5 inch speakers in the doors leaving door panels untouched I have a dozen of 6.5 2way speakers I need to use up , The vibe isn't got a tag yet & I have it at a $35 a month storage facility outside !! It has a 4x50 watt cd head unit with iPod it's a wonder the factory speakers are not in shreds I seen at finished master they sell stick on sound dead 20 sheets for $25 that's on my wish list to do the vibe was bought 12/20/2011 so it's been 4.5 weeks Rome wasn't built in a day
Sounds like one heck of a job! What kind of body work do you have to do on it? Any chance we could see pictures of your progress? As for your 6.5 inch speakers, I put Polk Audio DB651-s shallow mount speakers up front with the brackets Crutchfield supplied, had to drill new holes to mount them (WATCH OUT FOR DOOR WIRES IF YOU DO!). Door panels are untouched and they fit great. You just have to watch out for mounting depth because some people had problems with their windows not going down all the way.Looking forward to seeing how things go along for you!
I admire your determination and glad this post reads "Selling Saturn to fix a Vibe" instead of selling a Vibe to fix a Saturn The Vibe will last a lot longer than the Saturn If you haven't started a garage yet , then do so and post lots of pics of your progress, up to the day that you are totally finished. At least where you're located, you can most likely work on the Vibe OUTDOORS year round if need be. Good luck
04 $1800 lots of photos even ones inside of engine the body work well the driver door is too far gone to get ready for paint your speakers are 6 inch ? Or 6.5 ? Maybe I. Can get by just buying mounts I'll post photos as soon as I can figure out how to do it off iPhone keep it on the road
They're 6.5, the fronts fit perfect when I drilled new holes, the tweeter is mounted deeper inside of it so that it doesn't hit the door panel so I'm not sure if yours would need any modification, but it's worth a try. Mounts are basically plastic rings that go between the speaker and the door, with holes to screw in the speaker, and screw the whole thing into the door. You could probably get away with making them yourself, too. Haven't put the rear speakers in yet but supposedly you have more room to play with before you bother the windows, so with mounts you should be all set, though there's some kind of plastic thing to get rid of first and some new holes to drill. Stockers are 5.25 but the hole can fit 6.5's.
I'm imspired over your 3 vibes as soon as I'm able well can afford another 2nd vibe for my wife I'll buy a 2005 I like the front end better than 04 I did motor work inside 80 hours & it cost me $150 a month + $100 security then I'm paying $35 outside storage until I get parts I need then it goes inside again Florida is nice right now today iny car it was 100 temp my iPhone was on dash & overheated but there is no jobs so I'm fixing up vibe struggling to get $. To buy parts I have been buying parts from California car parts wholesale best prices I have found I decided to buy vibe so I can carry me & my gear out of Florida to Texas or as far as north Dakota to the Frac oil wells I'm a class a truck driver & they are paying big $ I have been living on the bread line almost , for too long that vibe I bought I still wish I had another 2 grand to get a clean & strait body one , but wanting and getting is two different things life is not about waiting for the storm to pass but learning to dance in the rain !
Cool. ! I might make mounts wood ? I have 4. 5x7 2 way also I might even cut metal 4 those I'm wanting to complete engine wow it is alot of work everything had to come off & looking down a those pistons what a thrill & the timing chain was a challenge I put the chain cover on 3 times with rtv each time I installed the head 2 times I spent $125 on headgaskets trial by error next time it will be like riding a bike but I hope I don't have to do it on another vibe I lost alot of sleep working all nite when I looked outside & I seen daylight I say I thought it's been 2 hours working but it was 10 hours
That could probably work, and I bet wood would deaden some of the vibrations better than the plastic mounts I got. Though if you say you want some sound deadener too, that would sound amazing! One thing's for sure, you're way more brave than I am.. I'd be scared to break something just reaching into the engine bay
I have the Polk DB Series all around. They are GREAT speakers for the price. I have the shallow mounts up front & the standard size in the rear. I recently installed the rears with some sound deadening from http://www.soundproofcow.com/s....html. Turned out to be 37 bucks shipped & was enough material for 2 rear doors. All I did was remove the moisture barrier & trace it over the material in a way that i had enough material for both doors. I then used the scraps for the small areas. Im not looking for earth shattering bass BUT with the Polks & the sound deadening the bass coming from the rears is pretty impressive for a 6.5" speaker. The Polks can be kinda bright but I just turned down the treble and fade more to the rears. The clarity of these speakers are amazing. The shallow I bought at Crutchfeild on sale for about 80 bucks. Normally they run for 100. The rears I bought at Amazon for 50 shipped. Also picked up some some speaker adapters from ebay for about 6 bucks. I like to shop around...LOL Warning though....when I replaced the stock rears without the sound deadening I DID lose bass with the Polks.....but when I applied the deadener & I had bass that was better than the stock speaker. I ended up with a really nice sounding system without a subwoofer & factory M&T amp.
