If you lock yourself out of your Vibe...

Thinking out loud here...Which window is the cheapest, or at least easiest, to replace if you lock yourself out of your Vibe? That is...if a person ABSOLUTELY had to get in there and had ZERO other options (i.e. bone chilling cold in the middle of nowhere, kid locked in there, etc...)(Maybe put in a hidden 'unlock' button wired into the OEM unlock button somewhere under the vehicle???...not a half bad idea...)Ya, I know, hide-a-key, spare in the wallet, On-Star, etc.etc.etc...I've got the hide-a-key stashed up in the framework, spare key in the wallet as well as a 'master spare key chain' hidden in the garage at the house and so on. I locked myself out of my '74 Malibu at an interstate rest stop one time, about 22 years ago and had to bust out a rear quarter window, of course, middle of the night, in the winter, cold, windy, snowy, nobody else around, etc.Now that I've got a kid, it brings a new meaning to it all...

Well, not the windshield. Probably one of the rear door windows just because it would be less of an inconvenience.

Couldn't you just wiggle the driver's window till the tabs at the bottom broke and it fell off the track? Then just lift it out. That happens to my window all the time and I don't even try. I did get the recall, but it still sucks.

Roadside assistance is like $10 on most insurance policies. I have it just to be safe. Also, non emergency call to local police or highway patrol would work and costs way less than a window. I would think a rear side or the rear hatch window would be least inconvenient in an emergency.

I would say the passenger rear window With active OnStar, it SHOULD unlock our cars. One of these days I'm actually going to call them and put it to the test

I've got a Viper security system in my Vibe, so simply opening the door, or breaking a window is a bad idea. I take extra special care of my keys, and they're always either in the ignition, in the box next to my laptop, or latched to my belt loop with a strong metal clip. I make checks of myself every now and again for them. It's unlikely that I'd lose them, but in the off chance I do, I need my spare keys which are kept at home.

They will just wish that fool would turn off their alarm! Studies have shown that audible car alarms sounding are pretty much worthless. .... okay, well, next to that is that the engine will be immobilized if the keys aren't in the Vibe. And if they are the car won't lock, actually. I can't lock it with the remote from inside. But I have a hole for your logic: at my high school, most kids from hand-me-down cars, and alarms rarely go off. Plus, the parking lot attendant would be there, as would whatever officer she calls. Than again, that is just my high school.

See...........And that's where I figured this would go....Cell phones, OnStar, Roadside Assistance, Viper Security, Genie in a bottle, wishful thinking, etc.Didn't say anything about any of that...@keithvibe - yep, pretty much everybody's got the cell phone these days, but coverage where I'm at is a bit spotty. Leave it to me to lock the doors in exactly the middle of one of those non-coverage areas No, I don't lock myself out of the car...at least not since that night in the Malibu.But, with a 3 year old tagging along these days, the chances go up exponentially ya know

Yea I locked myself out with the car running in the drive way. I had the spare key in the house. Now I have a key (w/o the chip) stashed under the car. So if I lock myself out I can still open the door.
