wanted: crank pulley bolt for use with supercharger.

Post by silverbullet »

Does anyone have one of these or know where I can get one? I don't have a supercharger now but the reason I want it is that I have a light crank and would like to get the bolt in there when I do that so its ready for a supercharger, which I plan on upgrading to as soon as I am done putting the wife through school.

Bump. Does anyone know the difference? Just a higher grade bolt? Perhaps I could get one from the parts store?

Yes it's a higher grade bolt. With the SC it should be Torqued to 160 ft*lbs.

The stock bolt grade is 11 and has a very thick washer. I'll check the thread size and lenght Tuesday.

Hey thanks a lot, would be amazing if I could get the dimensions to know what I need. Rather than pull mine out and find another ride to the store to try and match it. What type of bolt should I replace it with? I know people have ran the superchargers on the stock bolt with out problems but I would rather just upgrade it to be sure. I will be glad to have this part ready for the super. It will be my reward after I am done putting my girlfriend through school.

That's a good idea I didn't think of trying them. I could not find them listed but I sent an email I bet there's a decent chance they have or can et it.

Ok I got the bolt and just actully opened it up to have a look today. I did not expect the star point pattern on the head. Salaam guy? Or anyone else who has this installed: a standard socket will work right? It is defanitly the right part too, came in a trd sealed bag and then wrapped in paper treated with corrosion inhibitors. (Wishing I could bathe my car in that stuff). Side note this thing is definetly beech. Pretty heavy, and this washer on it is crazy thick.

I think I remember it being a star. The reason being more surface are to torque the (removed) down. However after giving it my best shot at getting the stock on off I took it down to my local machanic and had him do it. He used an impact wrench. I also had replace my diff rear seals and put amsoil in it.

Ok. Well I will be doing it with impact when the time comes. I'll grab a pack of torque sticks too. Will make the job way easier. Will be worth the extra money. Im sure I will be able to find other uses as well. Once again thanks.

Lol. This is being done so when I get a supercharger it will be ready. That is the end goal. Money is tight right now. Putting the wife through school, she is only working a couple days a week on account of the program she is in. She should be working none but she has to keep the job intact at least. Mostly to be able to work during breaks. Will have to make sure I fan actully afford it before taking the plunge. I may sound like a dreamer but I promise you it will happen eventually. She has about a year and 1/2 left, but then licensing exams. Uggh. That's. Couple thousand out of my pocket. So really no telling when it could be. Latest I suppose would be after that is done. I'll probably pull it together by then tho. Perhaps I should start putting some money aside this summer/fall. (That's when I make most my money). If I was really desperate I could sell my new in box gm body kit. But its so pretty. Lol. It'll make its way onto the car someday.

I got a lightweight alt and crank pulley from a member here. Installed the alt this fall. The crank pulley is still on the shelf. Recently was going to install it and thought about the trd bolt. Decided to find and get it installed with the pulley so I don't have to do the job over. I see no reason why I should have a problem running the bolt na until I get the super. I will have to put my tax money away this year and start saving up some other cash so I can be ready for one to pop up on any of the other forums.

Well that's thinking ahead...really ahead. LOL. It's great to hear your wife is getting through school soon. I'm sure it will be all worth it when she's done! Unless you have an AWD I'd try and go with a Turbo

Tough decision but for some reason I'm still thinking super over turbo. Perhaps its an inner being holding me back from too much power that could be dangerous to me, or my motor. Lol. I would not be able to resist turning up the boost. My atx would hate me, until it died. I'm sure I could pull off a turbo just fine, but I'm going to go what I speculate will be the slightly simpler route. Plus of course no lag.
