Worst selling cars of 2011

Post by DeClerq »

For those who may be interested: http://www.autoblog.com/2012/0...2011/ Where there are winners, there are inevitably losers. Last year was exceedingly kind to big pickups, sprawling family sedans and SUVs, but not every model came out of 2011 with big sales figures. We took the time to dig through the low-selling models of the past 12 months to find out which vehicles produced throughout the year were the biggest duds. Since we aren't interested in how few Lamborghini Aventador models rolled off of dealer lots in the U.S. in 2011, we kept the MSRP under $100,000.Our criteria immediately nixed vehicles like the Mazda RX-8, Volvo V50, Ram Cargo Van and everything in the Saab stable due to the fact that those models weren't manufactured through all 12 months of 2011. High-end metal like the Mercdes-Benz SL, CL and G classes were also kicked to the curb due to our price ceiling. Which was the worst of them all? We'll give you a hint. It wasn't the Acura ZDX. Top 10 Worst-Selling Vehicles of 201110. Subaru TribecaMSRP: $30,595Units Sold: 2,7919. Mazda TributeMSRP: $20,555Units Sold: 2,6968. Mercedes-Benz R-ClassMSRP: $52,690Units Sold: 2,3857. Suzuki EquatorMSRP: $17,899Units Sold: 2,1276. Cadillac Escalade EXT*MSRP: $63,060Units Sold: 2,0365. Toyota Land CruiserMSRP: $68,920Units Sold: 1,6624. Acura ZDXMSRP: $46,020Units Sold: 1,5643. Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback*MSRP: $18,395Units Sold: 1,5482. Hyundai AzeraMSRP: $25,495Units Sold: 1,5241. Acura RLMSRP: $47,700Units Sold: 1,096*There was some contention over whether these vehicles classify as truly separate models from their line. After much debate, it was decided we would adhere to the same standards of model differentiation manufacturers use when reporting sales figures.

GM trucks are pretty much all profit, and they sell, so GM keeps them around.

There are Escalades everywhere here. Along with the GMC and Chevrolet trucks. Mostly farmers I'm guessing. I don't care for any of the cars on that list. So it wouldn't surprise me.

I'd be curious to see a comparison of "units made" vs "units sold" as indicated If a line is not very popular OR Waaayyyy overpriced, there could be hundreds or thousands sitting on dealer lots collecting dust

My brother just bought a '11 Lancer Sportback. As far as a car goes, it's pretty nice, and roomy inside. And it has that nice little cargo area, though smaller than a hatchback. It's kinda cool looking too.

Thats sad about the Hyundai Azera. Those are nice cars. I guess they suffered from "also ran" syndrome in 2011? The new flagship Genesis was released in the USA and the Sonata was redesigned. Both the Genesis and the Sonata are nice looking cars and with the Sonata you get so much for so little so those in the market for an Azera probably spent a few more dollars on a Genesis or saved a few bucks on the SonataI have a soft spot for Sonata's as I owned a 2006 and the worst mistake I ever made was to trade it in for that piece of crap Saturn Aura I am not surprised about the Acura ZDX as it is nothing but a steroided up Accord Crosstour and just as ugly. The Tribute was nothing but a Ford Escape with a Mazda badge and those wanting the vehicle bought an Escape and with all the new features on the Escape, there really was no point to buying a tribute
