Chevy Avalanche Issues?

Post by MotoAce51 »

I was thinking of buying a 03 Chevy Avalanche and someone mentioned they require about $1000 worth of brakes every 30K mi. Something about the brakes being hard to replace and to replace rotors you need to take the entire hub apart or w/e. I keep trying to search the net and can't seem to find anything relating to this. My dad then mentioned hearing something about it but wasnt sure if its an Avalanche or Colorado. Two different trucks but maybe thats it? Anyone have insight on this?

We had a 2001 Yukon XL from 2003 until 2008, that's the same chassis, and the only brake issues we had were the parking brakes. They are located inside the rear disc like a drum brake, and if you do not regularly use them, they wear away on one side and eat into the rotors, ruining them. We found out about it during a vehicle inspection one year, but the tech let it pass since he said almost every GM truck he tested had bad parking brakes. I eventually replaced one side, but I could not get the other side apart. We traded it in the next year. But we never had any other brake issues in about 100K miles that the vehicle had when we traded it. Never even did the front pads either. I know there are some Avalanche forums, have you looked on there?
