Question about Accessory Tensioner

Post by factorynew »

I have a 2005 Vibe. Been great so far except for a rattling sound on the passenger side of the engine. The sound has progressively gotten worse. I have already gone through the trouble of removing the engine mounts and removing the Tensioner. So I was wondering- couldn't I just put the mounts back in and try to to start it and let it run for 10 seconds or so to see if the noise is still there without the accessory belt and Tensioner in place? Providing if it will start, I don't foresee any danger in letting it run for a few seconds? What do you think?

It will start. It just won't turn the alternator, water pump or any other accessories. A quick start and short run won't hurt anything.
