LED lighting & polarity

Post by cptnsolo77 »

I purchased a replacement LED map light from Ebay, however they dont light up. This is the second pair that doesnt work. I have power because the incandesant bulb works. I remember when I replaced the dome & hatch bulbs with the LEDS, if they were facing in one direction they would not light. When I reversed them they would light up.....however the 1895 LED bulb will only fit one way. No way I can reverse them. I have read that LEDS will only work with the correct electrical polarity. Any insight on this?

Sounds like you'll have no choice but to somehow modify that small bulb to fit OPPOSITE of what it currently is. This means filing down one or both of the nubs and maybe soldering new ones in the proper location. It shouldn't be that difficult. As a test, simply hold wire to the bulb and then position the wire leads into your socket to verify that the lamp is good. Then MODIFY the bulb

I know this problem. My Vibe had it too. I just pulled the wires from the connector, and switched them.

I was thinking about doing the exact thing. Only way to really find out is to reverse the wires leading to the contacts.

Do it. It can be undone, but mine is just fine with them like that.
