2005 Passenger ABS Light ON and Airbag Acitve

Post by cthomasparr »

I read posts about this, but can't figure out if the condition i see is normal. When a passenger is in the car it says air bag is on, but the light never goes off. Seems like it should only illuminate and stay on if sensors detect someone in the seat and the air bag is not active. Seems kind of annoying to have on all the time. This was for a 2005 base vibe that I test drove.http://community.cartalk.com/d...-vibe

On my 05 Matrix (Vibe's sister) the "Airbag" light is always on. If my wife or son sits in the seat light shows "Airbag" "On". If I have my laptop or my daughter on the seat the light shows "Off" "Airbag". I hope that helps.

On my '09, if someone is in the passenger seat, the AIRBAG will stay ON at all time. If no one is in the seat, the light will say airbag OFF and then it will turn off a short time after.

Sounds like something is wrong with the sensor if it remains ON. When someone is in my passenger seat, of course it says AIRBAG ON, and then they get out the light will sometimes stay lit ON for a good while down the road. I have no idea what up with it.

thanks for the replies. From what i have read elsewhere, it appears that the dashboard light will only not be illuminated if nobody or nothing heavy is in the passenger seat. If there is a passenger heavy enough to activate the airbag, it will glow on.... as long as the key is turned and the person is sitting. If something or someone is in the pass seat but not heavy enough to justify the airbag it will illuminate off until the weight is removed from the seat.makes sense and I guess I don't mind seeing the light the few times i have a passenger. My initial thought was that it would be annoying if the light was ALWAYS telling me on or off.
