My head hurts...(Horn Troubles)

Post by budsully13 »

(Sorry for the misspelling in the title)Sooooo....I was just watching my favorite episode of The Office when I heard what sounded like my Hella Triple Tone air horn going off 4 times. I assumed it was nothing but then it went off a 5th time and just STAYED ON! OH MY GOSH! It is currently 12:00 AM and I have the biggest headache right now! I ran out to my car popped the hood and ripped the wire going to the compressor Anyone have any idea what may have caused this? It is currently raining and cold but I made sure the shield all the wires and even covered the relay in tape to protect it. As of right now, I am currently "hornless" and don't even want to plug it back in until I can confirm what caused it This horn has been in my car for about 4 months with no other problems just for the record. Any help at all is appreciated!

My vibe does not have an alarm system or a panic button on the remote and it didn't sound anything like when a car alarm goes off. It sounded like someone was just laying on the horn.

I had and issue similar to this in a Beretta I had. The spring in the stearing wheel failed and it caused the switch to always be engaged. Although it didn't keep the horn blaring, whenever I did hit the horn, it blew the fuse. I know that's not your symptoms, but just throwing ideas out there. Maybe pull back on the horn area a little (remember the air bag behind it) just to see if it stops.

Pop the cruise control switch off. That's where the horn wire is, it's white. You'll need to undo the 4 screws holding the airbag on and you'll see the switch. It works by grounding the white lead to the wheel. touch the white wire to anywhere on the hub and it will go off. If that's the case, it's still functional down the line, and is an issue with the airbag resting on the springs wrong. find the ground fault, and cover it with electrical tape if you can't readjust it, then reassemble.
