Rough idle and jerky accel (CEL P0172) after recall PCM replacement. CAI to blame?

Post by headcold »

Hi,I got a letter about the PCM in my 08 Vibe being recalled and needing to be replaced. I took it to a GM dealership where they replaced and reprogrammed the PCM and sent me on my way.I was getting jerky acceleration and sometimes rough idling and now the CEL is on. I took it back and they said that they pulled code P0172, system too rich. They blame it on the cold air intake I've had installed for over 2 years now. They (naturally) suggest that I take it out and reinstall the factory breather.A common fix for P0172 is to clean the MAF, so I'll try that.I forget what it was like when I first put the CAI in. Will the car relearn how to operate with a CAI in place?

How soon after getting the PCM replaced did this start to happen? On the CAI I would suspect it would too lean instead of rich (ofcourse the ECU will figure it out). Keep us posted.

Do you use an oiled air filter? That can foul the MAF if over-oiled.

I live about a half mile from the dealership, so I didn't notice much on the drive home, but the next day I noticed the jerkiness and rough idling, so I'd say that it happened more or less immediately after the PCM replacement.I do use an oiled filter. I oiled it maybe 6 months ago, though. The only thing that changed from last week to this week is the PCM getting replaced.
