Frosty Touch-up paint

Post by huy397 »

I finally located a bottle of Frosty White touch up at my local dealership... I am just wondering, is it a good match ?Considering it's white, I am guessing it should be better than colours like Satellite or Shadow? thanks

It's the "protective" coat over our paints. If you just use touch-up, it will be a bit dull and not glossy. If you put some clear coat over it, you should achieve a similar gloss to the original paint...Of course, make sure you wait for the regular paint to dry before applying the clear coat...

Not sure if GM markets it...You can get it at any auto parts store, but it comes in huge bottles.Might wanna ask the dealer what they recommend, or if GM sells it in smaller bottles...

The clear coat won't be necessary on small touch-ups of scratches or stone chips. The touch up paint is usually an enamel paint that will match your finish as closely as possible in both color and gloss. I would use some prep-sol or rubbing alcohol first in the area to be repaired so the new paint will stick better and to remove wax and dirt from the area. Touch up paint is not usually done in a basecoat-clearcoat paint type, so the clearcoat shouldn't be necessary. Don't use the clearcoat stuff you get in a spray can, it is completely different from automotive clear coat finishes (they have to be hand mixed with thinner and usually a gloss additive in an automotive-type spray gun using compressed air). The stuff in the spray can won't last on the car's finish and will make a mess of the finish if used.
