2009/10 1.8L MT Engine RPM @ 60 MPH

Post by zoomie »

After watching a Youtube video of someone filming their speedo in a Prius at said speed I noticed their tach was in the mid-teens, my car in 5th is @ 2700, cool gearbox, me wants that ratio

...sorry, but Prius uses different tranny than the Corolla/Matrix/Vibe's.
...and the Devil said: "...yes, but it's a DRY heat!"

Well.... with a few thousand $$$ in mods and PCM upgrades AND the CVT from a 2010+ Prius you could have it. The CVT should be a direct bolt up to our 1.8's.Or you could go to a machine shop and have them make a higher geared final drive!

Or you could go to a machine shop and have them make a higher geared final drive! that would be a great idea, except for the fact that we can barely make it up long hills with base 1.8's without losing speed or shifting sometimes. ;/a CVT could be a cool mod though if someone could figure out a standalone to run one. It would be a good retrofit for a 5-6spd since the car doesn't care what the transmission is doing in those.

I can't tell you how many times I've flew up hills in 3rd or 4th gear, flying past people. Personally I'd remove 4th gear and lower it's ratio a little... the 3rd to 4th shift on really steep hills requires shifting at about 5000rpm at least to be able to hold 4th, there's just too much of a drop. I have no problem with the engine screaming above 5000 but I don't like hunting for gears!
