Hi, my vibe stock stereo has the infamous dead illumination bulb issue so I decided to just install a better aftermarket stereo. I've only installed an aftermarket stereo once before on an older car so I just wanted to double check that I did the wiring correctly. My 2005 Vibe only came with the basic single disc cd player, no moon and tunes or anything fancy. The head unit I am installing is a Kenwood KDC-248U.I basically matched the wire colors on the harness for the vibe I got at the local stereo store with the supplied harness with the Kenwood stereo. So black to black, red to red, white/black to white/black etc. This left me with the orange and orange/white wires on the vibe harness left over, should I just electrical tape the ends of these and leave them alone? Also I connected the blue/white wires but in another post saw that these are for an amp and I don't think the base audio system on my vibe had an amp so should I disconnect these wires and tape them too? If it is of any help on the kenwood harness the blue/white wire was folded over and taped with a label that said "P. CONT" just like the gold "mute" wire and the blue "ant cont" wire that did not have a match on the vibe wire harness. Also on the vibe harness the green and green/black is a light green and on the kenwood harness they are dark green. I'm assuming this does not matter and they still go together. Is there anything else I should know before I install it?Thanks for the help.
the only thing I can speak with any intelligence on (as I'm installing my own HU right now) is the Orange wires are likely for the dimmer - your new HU won't get darker when you dim the speedometer. Also, the blue wire labelled "ANT CONT" is for your power antenna, which you don't have, so I think you can ignore that too. Let us know how the install goes!
