OEM Clock radio doesn't keep accurate time

Post by knightrace »

Does your clock radio keep accurate time? Seems like I am always adjusting the time on the clock. I have an 05 factory stereo with single disc player.Does it mean my car battery is dying? Thanks.

On my 2009 the clock gains about a 2 or 3 minutes a month. Helps us get to Mass and other places on time. I think it was the same on my 2003 but my memory fades on that. The odometer under-reads by about 2%; racks up about 98 miles for every 100 actual. The speedometer, like most, is about 2 mph over the actual speed. Logically then you would think it would rack up more miles than actual but that is not the case. The practical effect is that your warranty will last longer because at a 2% under-read when your speedometer reaches 36,000 miles you will have actually driven 36,720 miles. Also, your actual mpg will be 2% greater than you calculate using your odometer reading. My 1977 Buick racked up about 110 miles for each 100 miles driven. I think someone put in the wrong gear on that car but of course GM denied that - said that amount of deviation was "normal". I guess it was also normal for starters to last less than a year, and to blow ignition coils on a regular basis. I didn't buy another GM car until my 2003 Vibe, and that really wasn't a GM car. So in reality my boycott of GM continues. [In 1977 the factory warranty was only 1 years so I bought a lot of starters and ignition coils.]

Normally my clock keeps very accurate time. I noticed this morning that for some reason it is suddenly an hour fast.

Sometimes mine will be a little slow, but never more than a minute; and that takes a year or so to get that way.

i know that when a pc doesn't keep good time the button battery is going. i'm not sure if the radio has one in there, but if it does it probably needs a change. that or the crystal that does the timing is loose, bad, or just the whole circuitry isn't that accurate.
None. Vibe is gone.

My friend used to have an '05 Grand Prix which has almost the same exact radio. Her's would lag time really bad. Like 5+ minutes. She then eventually just kept it 15 minutes fast and it would eventually catch up.

Turn it off - it will be exactly right twice a day.
