Wanted to post another IPOD2Car post since I couldn't find ones with pictures. Install was very simple and can be done by anyone, with pretty simple tools. Let me know if anythings missingYou will need an IPOD2CAR UNITThe correct adaptor which for 30-05 is PXHGM305-08 I think still use this but may need another cable.1 T-connectorSome Zip ties1)Disconnect the batery 2) Remove the from bezel from around the radio. Pull out the bottom then swing upwards and out.3)Disconnect wiring for hazard, rear window defrost and air bag light. Just push the button on the connector and wiggle off.4)Unclip the unit that has the a/c button. There two notches that hold this in one on the botton and one on top. Pry these and pull out.4)Now Unscrew the radio and pull out5)Unplug wiring and pull out antenna ,Remove radio6) Take you PXHGM3 Connector . Take the yellow wire and spice it into the blue/ with white line wire that is coming from the main harness, in the top corner. I just used a straight connector but recommend using a t-connector7)Set the switches on the back of the ipod2car too what the manual says. If unit ends up being to quiet you can try turning #6 on also.Plug socket 1 into the cd/changer port and socket 2 into the ipod2car unit. Re-plug the main plug into your deck and dont forget the antena too.8)Plug ipod cable into ipod2car unit.9)Remove philips screw from glove box door then remove door by lifting up and out.10)I zip tied my unit to the side of the glove box frame to make an easy access if I wanted to change #6 dip switch.Run the ipod cable to wherever you want to connect you ipod.11)Put everything back in reverse order, connect your battery now connect your ipod, push the cd/aux button and you can now control your ipod through the stock radio. And lastly always listen to the manual
I installed an AuxPod (basically identical to the iPod2car) kit in my '08, and I didn't need any extra cables than the ones you referenced.Nice writeup. It's a fairly straightforward install. I've done it in both our Vibes now (mine has the AuxPod, hers has the AuxBox, but it's the same install).
Hey thanks for the play-by-play! I have this in my '04, but I'm soon getting a new HU, so I'm giving my iPod2Car to my sister for her '05 Vibe--this will help her husband install that in her car--thanks!!
Thanks , I just need to figure out where to mount it, I would like it just to the right of the deck, but I will have to make a custom holder, because the cradle it came with looks big enough for an iphone
Where do you have the USB coming from? I had mine come out through the little cubby by the shifter. most times I just put it in the cupholder, unless I'm on a long trip and want to see the screen more.
Right now its just running from under the glove box but I would like to run it though the bezel somewhere if i can mount the ipod right beside the radio. Its my fiancees car so I would rather her eyes be up by the radio somewhere , then fiddleing around the cupholders.
I am looking to install an ipod adapter in my '06. Where is the cheapest place online to order it? You can control the ipod through the head unit with the ipod2car adapter right? Thanks!
Nice write up.I did this in a 2003 Matrix. I bought the kit from autosoundcentral.com . They had the best price. It will not let you control your Ipod or IPhone. Anythin with a 1/8th inch headset jack can be plugged in and played. One comment. On step 6) I had not only a yellow wire, but a black wire also, coming out of socket 2. I had to ground this back wire. i didn't want to hack into the wire harness anymore than I had to so I stripped back the black wire and wrapped it around one of the mounting holes in step 4. These mounting screws go into a sub frame behind the dash that is grounded. worked like a charm.Dan
Sorry to pull up an old thead. I have an 03 matrix. When I connect the green box to the back of the radio using PXHGM3, it doesn't work! meaning, when I push the AUX/CD button, nothing happens!I believed that I've done a good job wiring. And also, the code for the box that I've used is 1,3,8 (which is according to the manual). This is so frustrating. Could anyone help me out here please?
