help...2nd cracked flexplate

First post looking for some help from people that knows these carsOk so hears the backgroundPicked up a 2004 vibe for $300... because of broken camshaft.decided to replace the whole engine while i had the chance with a low milage unit. aprox 40,000 mi on new engine 150,000 on the car.when installing the engine the first time i left off the spacer that goes between the crank and the flexplate... this is an auto trans.crankedt the car the first time to an awful noise, flexplate scraping the back of the block. pulled the engine and installed the flexplate with both spacers. one behind flexplate and the one with the lip on the outside. so it looks like this .... | () [ crude but to someone that has replaced them they will know..installed the engine back and the scraping noise was gone, drove for about 1000 miles and a new noise came up. loud clanking noise from the engine. It got worse and worse over a months time so i pulled the engine and trans back out and saw the cracked flexplate. I originally figured that the flexplate cracked when installed incorrectly without the shim. so i replaced the flexplate and now after another 1000 or so miles it is starting to make the same noise!What could be causing my flexplate to keep cracking?and before you ask i made sure to torque all the bolts and use locktight where it needed to be.Please let me know any ideas you might have!?!?!

How are the motor/transmission mounts.What would happen if you flipped the lip around so it faced the flexplate?
