hi everyone!been perusing this forum for awhile & finally bought a used vibe. it's sound mechanically but needs some interior/exterior work. currently in the body shop to repaint hood & front fender. the L & R grills were missing so hopefully i'll get those replaced. there was also a minor dent in the passenger side door near the mirror that i hope can be pulled out.as for the interior, it needs a good detailing job & a new radio would be a nice upgrade. my main gripe is with the center console. somehow the previous owner beat the crap out of it. would a 2003-2004 vibe console be a direct fit into the 2005? or which year matrix console would be a direct fit? any input would be greatly appreciated. oh, and i may also need to replace the actuator as i notice a clicking sound in the passenger side dash area.in any case, i'm excited to own a vibe as my first car. i've learned a lot from this community as is & i look forward to learning more. i hope my car will soon look as great as some of yours.
Welcome! Got pics?I'm pretty sure the center console should be identical all the way from 2003 to 2008. Others who know for sure can confirm that for me.I have that same clicking in mine. I just haven't gotten around to doing anything about it yet, since it doesn't really seem to be affecting much other than clicking, and since I normally drive with the windows and roof open, I don't hear it.
Welcome to the GenVibe family. The center console is the same molded piece from 2003-08, but the top of the 'armrest' was thicker and had an additional compartment inside in 2003-04, becoming a single lid for 2005-08. The 2003-04 also had an additional 'cigarette-lighter-socket' power port installed inside the console. For 2005-08 the wiring is there, but the socket itself was not installed.
My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.
I was able to simply swap an '03-'04 lid onto my '06's console. More practical, and my elbow rests much nicer, due to the added height of the extra compartment. Two screws to loosen and tighten, couldn't be simpler. And you'll be able to find an '03-'04 top piece online or better yet, a junk yard for cheaper. I think I've seen people selling them for about $40 or so on here. You might be able to snag one at the junkyard for $10-$15. One of the best and easiest upgrades I've made. Have fun bringing your Vibe up to snuff. It'll take care of you if you take care of it.
thanks for the detailed info on the console, kostby & jkm311 & hi to tony tat2! i'll shoot for an 03-04 replacement. i definitely intend to take good care of this car. would like it it to laaassst.
Welcome aboard. I am sure you get years of great service from the Vibe. Also remember for most mechanical parts, you can get them cheaper at a Toyota dealer. The Vibe is the sister car of the Matrix
thanks journeyforce! definitely cheaper at toyota. had to get a door check & toyota cost 1/2 the price of GM. so, at first, i thought i had the sun & sound package (because that's what the seller said) but after more reading, i may have the moon & tunes...? um, how does one confirm this? honestly, i'm such a noob at this. haven't had much time with the car. it was bought, sent to mechanic to inspect & tweak then after it was shuttled off to body shop. and now i wait patiently for its return so i can finally familiarize myself with it.
Welcome to this great site I'm envious of you fusion owners as that was the color I absolutely wanted BUT it wasn't available, again, until the last model year .... 2010 and was called Ignition Orange metallic, and I would have lost all my MAJOR purchasing incentives had I went with a '10 vs the '09. So I went with my other favorite color RED Get it back on the road and enjoy the ride !!!
Learned something new...I will look into this as well as that is my only real issue with my Vibe. I use to have a S-10 with a huge middle console and I'm definitely missing that elbow rest. Also, welcome crush!

Welcome to the forum! My understanding is that the moon and tune package just meant that it has a moonroof and an upgraded 200 watt sound system. If it has the moonsoon sub woofer speaker in the passenger-side panel of the cargo area, then it has the moon and tune package. someone chime in if it includes something else.

Wasn't Sun & Sound the first package offering pre-2005? Then, they switched over to Moon & Tunes afterward? Might have that one wrong, but that would suggest only a sunroof was available with the first gen, then a moonroof with the redesign of the first gen for 2005-2008.

Appearance Package is available in Platinum, Abyss or Salsa Performance and style

moon & tunes it is (got the moonroof, sunroof, subwoofer in back). thanks for the input, knightrace & jkm311 & hello to ramenboy!finally got the car back from the body shop (they did such a great job on the front end -- too bad i didn't think to take before pics) & last weekend was mostly spent cleaning the interior. it's hilarious what was found under the center console as previous owner had dropped a whole load of crap down there, like finding buried treasure. pics soon to come...
