Question about ipod placement

Post by Screammandan »

I recently purchased an 05 Base model and will be adding by my Alpine HU as soon as all of the wiring and parts come in. My question is, where do most of you (if you have one) route the ipod cable. I know the standard place to stash an ipod is in the glove box, but I've never been a fan of that. I want it accessible but not out in the open.In my old car, I had it in the armrest. But due to the spacious capacity and the fact that there is a gap between the armrest console and the dash, I'm not gonna do that. I was thinking about the little pocket on the left side of the dash, but I can't figure out how to pull the lower dash apart to route the cable. Any Ideas?

Under the shifter is a nice little compartment that I used to keep my iPod in.

Is it real hard to get under there to route the cable? I took a look around the other day and couldn't really see how to do it

It isn't extremely difficult. Pull the compartment out, drop the cable behind the HU and fish it out. Pretty simple and the iPod is still within easy reach.

Or you could remove your seat adn lift the carpet up and run it to your center consoleIt's actually not that difficult. May take you 30-45min w/my how-to thread

Anyone know how to remove the lower dash underneath the steering wheel? or do I have to take apart most of the dash to get to it. That little pocket to the left is perfectly sized. I'll probably end up putting it underneath the shifter.

Another thing to consider if you end up unsatisfied with wherever you route your cable: skipping the physical tie-in and using bluetooth audio.I use A2DP to get audio from my iPhone to my stereo and the only thing I have to worry about is charging. I've got mine set up on a window suction-cup on the windshield in the far left corner and this works well for me because I can also use Waze for traffic/routing. If your iPod has bluetooth (eg, it's a Touch) and you have an A2DP stereo, this could be a viable substitute in a jiffy.

Another good location is the glove-box.
