What am I going to do!!!

Post by Merzbow »

*sigh* I am getting so frusterated and pissed off with my mom, it sucks being a kid...She isn't letting me do anything to the Vibe. The only thing that matters to me are cars, and she is blocking my dreams....Im going to go insane hmmmm......Any ideas what i can save my money for now? I was thinking maybe a police radar/laser detector since it isnt permanant, what do you all think? -=Paul=-

At least upgrade the headlights to Silverstars...she'd never know, and it's one of the best modifications you can do...

Will she let you make non-permanent mods to the vibe?? if so...a strut brace can always be taken off....a intake system can be taken off....probably stay away from exhaust....thats more trouble to get on and off. get some high power light bulbs too!

Oh...Radar Detectors are HEAVEN! But they don't always work..Specially on hills, so you still have to be cautious. Don't use irresponsibly and go 100 mph everywhere. The blue lights are cool too!

I save my money.Police radar technology changes so often, I'd be buying a new one every year. Plus, it's just not reliable enough. I got my own radar detector -- MY EYES...watch traffic patterns...if you see abnormal braking, there's probably a cop...

do not waste your money on a detector..... Most police use instant on radars and laser detectors are inefective as they usually only go off after you have been targeted....Put the money to something usefull.... Better lights, stereo, wheels, rims etc.......

I'll go out on a limb and take a position contrary to most members here, but really, what's wrong with leaving it the way it is? If you really want to mod a car, use your money to buy a car that mom won't care what you do to it. Or, be happy with the Vibe, and save your money for college, car insurance, or something. But don't expect mom to be happy about you wanting to mess with her new Vibe, and trying to do stuff on it without her permission is a good way to put a lot of unnecessary stress on that relationship. That may not be important to you now, but it will be some day

Radar detectors mostly detect lazy cops. As for Laser, on the highway, it will help, because the laser beam isn't as tight as most people think. If you get a detector, get one from Escort. I have the 7500, but might move up to the S2 if they offer another trade-in thing. To be honest, my mom said the same thing. "It's a new car, and you're changing it already?!" Eh..to each his own.

if it's her car and her name's on the loan and title, well... save your money and work hard. then see if you can get it in your name or as a co-signer. will also help you build GOOD credit. that's tough to do now a days.

Ok--Well do this --Start with small and simple mods, like replacing the horn and silverstar headlights ,maybe beef up the sound system. She might be thinking you are going to paint flames down the side, but let her see the small but necessary improvements and maybe she will see a different light. But show her that you are really interested in the Vibe, always keep it waxed and clean and do all the regular maintence and I think she will loosen up. Don't do any radical mods yet --give her time so she can see that you just aren't going to make it an eyesore. After all------It's hers also. James (Vibe)

quote:Radar detectors mostly detect lazy cops. As for Laser, on the highway, it will help, because the laser beam isn't as tight as most people think.A laser has a beam width of about 2 meters at one Kilometer. Or 6' at 1/2 a mile.... It dispurtion is 6"...... and the max range is about 1 kilometer or 1/2 mile. Most Police Officers will use it at no more than 1/4 to 1/2 that range. So if it is being used properly there is not enough beam width or dispursion to activate a detector. The Police Officer would have to pretty mush aim it at your detector for it to work. I have been using one (laser) for the past 6 years.... 90 + % of the dectors in cars I stop do not even go off another 5 + % it goes off but by then I have the speed. Jammers do not work well either. Tested 3 models not one worked after the vehicle got with in 250 meters.. the laser detected the jammer as well but at a greater distance. Save your cash...... and just slow down a bit...."All those that hate speeding tickets Raise your right foot"

quote:...let her see the small but necessary improvements ....and ... Don't do any radical mods yet ... My point is that there are no "necessary" mods. There may be things you want to modify on the car, but there is nothing that you must modify on the car. I didn't buy my Vibe thinking "well, if I spend a grand or two on this car, I can make it barely acceptable" I thought it was good right out of the box.

I like all cars stock. Only few light mods on them like new high power bulbs or the new horns, tint or in some cases the clear lights can look good. BTW I had clear corner lenses on my Grand PRx, They looked awesome I wonder when they will have some for the Vibe?

Are you in law enforment?? Thats cool...I don't speed except like 5mph over, but the reason I wanted a radr/laser detector was because, if I choose to race someone, somewhere, I would like to do it without hesitating or without being paranoid of police....But if you say they don't work I will take your advice and not even bother with the $300, I could save that and buy exhaust or something... Also someone said you think the Vibe is good right outa the box...Yes I agree I always get people eying mme when i go by, even the the big boys in the 350z's and the big bad Supras check it out....I love how the Vibe looks now its perfect, but im just saying adding more mods will make it EVEN BETTER, plus if I add some more power I can race someone in an RSX, Neon, or possibly a stock camaro with a bit of confedence knowing I can win if I am a good enough driver -=Paul=-
