Post by vibenvy »

Well, I finally have full control over all the lights on my '09 GT! Here are some pictures of the results:The gauges showing the auto headlights have been disabled (note it is dark out and there are no headlight and/or fog light lights on the gauges):Just the parking lights:The gauges showing that ONLY the fog lights are on:Fog lights ONLY:Parking lights and fog lights:Gauges showing the fog lights are on WITH the high beams:High beams WITH fog lights:I want to give a huge thank you to keithvibe for posting the directions for how to disable the auto headlights and DRLs and to gimmegimme for posting the directions for how to make the fog lights independent. Thanks so much guys !

Awesome work! I disabled my DRL's a while back and love it, but I didn't go to the extent that you did.

It is definitely great having full control over all the lights! It seems like a lot of work, but it actually wasn't. It's only snipping one wire to disable the auto headlights and DRLs and grounding the fog light wire to make them independent. Not hard at all.

The auto headlights and DRLs bothered me from day one, as did not being able to have just the parking lights and fog lights on. I am truly 100% happy with the Vibe now .

In Ohio a new law now requires headlights to be on not only when it is dark (hour before sundown, hour after sunrise?) but also whenever the windshield wipers are on. I think other states also have such a law.For that reason alone I value the drl feature on the Vibe. I would be more interested in how to add that feature to my T&C than removing it from my Vibe.I predict that daytime running lights will soon become a mandatory federal safety requirement for new cars.

DRL's are actually mandatory, but in the that every new car has equipped with them. By the way, Virginia has had the law of light on with wipers for about 10 years.

Clearly I type faster than I think... I believe I meant to say is DRL's are actually mandatory, in the that every new car has to be equipped with them, but not that drivers are required to use them.

The only time I have no lights on whatsoever is when it's nice and sunny out, otherwise I have at least my parking lights on. If it's raining or snowing, headlights and fog lights are on. I am definitely not one of those mornons that doesn't know when to turn their lights on.

I want them to be the fog lights that are on, not the head lights. I go through too many headlamp bulbs and if you purchase the better bright ones, not only is the life span short due to the design of the bulb but they are much more expensive.I do want the automatic headlights feature to still operate as night falls but for that to work on the headlamps. The fog lights can stay on or go off, I don't care.Anyone done this mod on the "older" 07 Vibes??Dave

The thread is about disabling the DRL's. My comment is that I want to keep the DRL's but was simply asking if anyone has rewired these cars so that the Fog lamps become the DRL's, not the headlamps. Is there confusion I've missed somewhere??dave

I did it like this with the red So, essentially you would do the independent fog light mod like I did and you would just turn the fog lights on if you wanted them to be your DRLs. I'm guessing no one has found a way to have them come on automatically like the DRLs in the headlights.

I'll get around to this on some dark dreary night of the coming winter!I really do dislike burning out quality halogen bulbs so quickly because of the DRL's. But.. I really see the value in the DRL concept. Many cars have the DRL as a separate bulb from the headlamp.Dave

I kinda see the value too, so I put on the little LED lights in my lower grille.
