Speaker problem: Blown amp or speaker?

Post by rgnjc »

Hey all, I have a 2005 Vibe with the moon & tunes. I recently changed my HU out to a Kenwood KDC-348U, which is fantastic and gives great quality sound with my iPOD hooked up to the USB port. After the HU install everything seemed to be working and sounding great. I was listening to some music really loud and heard a pop sound once or twice. Now when I put my volume down all the way, I hear some hissing coming from the front left speaker and tweeter (which increases/decreases with RPM). The volume of these speakers is also less compared to the others, but I can still hear music coming from them. What do you think the problem is, and how can I troubleshoot? Do you think the problem is the speakers in the door, or the amp? I'd remove the passenger side speakers and swap them but from looking at these forums removing the speakers is not an easy or quick task.

OK I figured it out today. I took my HU out and found that the positive lead for the front left speaker pulled out of where I spliced the two harnesses together. I probably loosened it up while installing the HU. I re-spliced them and the sound works great. On a side note, this peaked my interest in upgrading my speakers next.
