Around 28 and 29mpg on the tanks to and from Indianapolis. The 28mpg was pretty impressive considering I was above 80mph most of the way down (or in stop and go traffic on back roads).

29.1 MPG before my gas light came on. That is the best for me ever. I have ran the AC EVERYDAY as well in stop and go traffic. It has been blistering out here in South Florida. Since I have had the Vibe I always had gotten 27-28 MPG. I recently replaced the plugs to NKG IXs. This past week was the first time with the new plugs on a full tank. I noticed the difference right away. Usually when I hit 1/2 tank I would be at 150 miles ( at best ) on my trip meter ( I set it to zero on every fill up )....Now when I hit 1/2 tank im at 170 miles ! Im shocked. This is city driving with AC on the whole time. Im anxious to see what my MPG will be when It cools off here & I stop using AC. Im guessing well over 30MPG. Very happy to say the least. If it wasnt for GenVibe I wouldnt have even thought about using a different plug.

I dunno how you do it Star, but i'm at 7.8/100km, I drive with no abandon and use the A/C when its 20*C and 95% non highway. 1.8 auto. Beats my old Silverado at 18mpg by a tad.....

Definitely! I don't pay too much attention to how I drive yet, I'm still just having fun with my car. Plus it's hard on the highways here because they are full of long steep hills, if you can imagine tha in ks, can't use the cruise because halfway up the hill, it'll shift down and gun it to keep speed. I get much better hwy numbers on the interstates, even at 75 mph.

So far it seems to make a pretty noticeable difference in mileage and after a week or two you don't even need to look at the gauge anymore, you can feel when it's approaching 2500 RPMs.That's why I love Illinois... it's flat !

That will be a good road to get some numbers off of. Gotta test out and see if I get any better numbers with my drop-in first. I should have filled up but I can't bring myself to do it at 3.72 when I know its 3.58 down the road.P.S. I've been shedhunting (hiking pastures, lol) in IL, and at least the part around Milan is most definitely not flat. Most wicked "hills" I've hiked shedhunting, and that's counting I've stomped in Iowa too! You must have the lucky flat part SE Kansas is flatter than here.

It's pretty easy for me to keep it below 2500 around here because I live in the country and hardly ever drive on the interstate or anywhere else where traffic is moving at a fast pace. Here in Chicagoland it's most definitely flat. All you see is corn fields for miles and miles .

First tank on the Toyota synthetic 0W-20 yielded 42.5MPG (5.53L/100KM) and 800.7KM/tank on 44.5L a 2.5MPG difference from the previous tank in virtually the same conditions, 80high/20city on 91 octane gas in very warm weather, 5W-20 synthetic oil and no AC. The 0W-20 seems to get the engine to operating temp a bit quicker. Shifts are max 2500rpm, foot off the throttle and coast, in gear of course, as much as possible, tires @ 35PSI, 0W-20 oil and keep any highway trip within city limits to 50-55MPH MAX. This really helps considering the price of gas simply refuses to go down here. It's 1.399/liter for 89 octane and 1.499/liter for 91. If you can catch it before the weekly spike you may save .07/liter but that's it. Been averaging in the 29s with half highway half city, and often loaded up with video equipment. I'm pretty satisfied with these numbers considering some of them occurred when most of the mileage was at 75mph (on I65, keeping up with traffic). The worst lately was one tank at arouns 25mpg, but that was at 80+mph and a lot of in-city speeding (darn GPS taking me through the bad parts of town).

I have had my '08 Matrix 5-speed base model for about 8 months now. I get a steady 33mpg on mostly highway commuting at 70mph. Although my speedometer is very accurate I found the trip meter to be inaccurate. I gained 2mpg when I started using my GPS to track mileage.
Finally got some extended highway miles on a drive from Portland, OR to Spokane, WA, on to Livingston, MT, down into Logan, UT and back thru Baker City, OR and home.Posted a best ever 32.2 mpg for one tank, and most of that was driving between 65-80 mph (with a few extended coasting downhill sessions - one that was over three miles).

I've had my 2007 Base for about a month now. Full synthetic oils in the motor & trans. New spark plugs and air filter. Tires at 35psi and are in good shape. Bone stock. Mostly urban driving, in and around Philadelphia with the A/C cranked up... between 29 and 31 mpg.
459.8kms on 32.46L - 7.0L/100kms or 33.6mpg - 30% sub 40mph stop and go city/70% 85+mph highway...The tires on my car are at 47psi but the 0w20 Toyota synth needs changing.
I have had the car for almost a month. I have filled it up twice with my own money(the first tank was filled up at the dealer)I have gotten the following1st fill up 33.8 MPG2nd fill up 34.5 MPGI have a 2009 1.8l Base with the 5 speed manual transI drive mostly highway but most of the time is is start and stop on I95/495 in the morning going to work. If I am not in traffic I drive 65-75 MPH (this is the Capital beltway if you drive exactly the posted speed, you are dead with the way those folks drive)The reason I got the car was to get good mileage and I have achieved this

I attribute part of it to the tight/touchy "shaved" accelerator pedal and the need to quickly get up to speed. I will work with junior to alter his driving habits before they become TRUE habits! The mileage can't get any worse so hopefully I can have a success story to post here in a couple months

Just got about 30.9 MPG all highway from Winnipeg to Grand Forks and Fargo. Be careful which gas you buy, I bought at one gas station in Pembina (the duty free shop) and it was sh#$#y gas, as I got about 100 kms less on a tank using that crap gas.
Quote, originally posted by J_TO_ENVY »Tim, perhaps you should try cleaning the MAF/IAT sensors to see if that helps at all. That's exactly what I plan on doing in the next couple of weeks. It can only help so I've got nothing to lose. Keeping on this topic, I just filled up mine for the first time in 5-months and with the help of the scangauge II, I got 27.9mpg which was an honest 20% hwy & 80% city. The majority of the city driving involved LOTS of coasting up to my planned stop (light, sign, car, etc.) Also very low shift rpm's (just barely 2000 rpm at each shift). I only drive this conservative in "moderate" to light traffic where I don't get drivers behind me too mad Overall I'm very pleased with my recent numbers. When the wife starts driving it again, the numbers will head south BIG TIME
31.1 mpg this last fill up, 100% highway, 50% at 80+ mph sometimes going uphill (I was following a group to a fossil collection place), then 50% at 65-75 mph when I was able to choose my speed.

My latest fillup:10.03.11 - 28.4 mpg - 50% city/50% highwayMy overall average since May of 2010 is 28.0 mpg! Not bad at all if you ask me! FYI the EPA estimates are 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined.

Before I filled my tires, I was averaging about 29 MPG. Since filling them all up to 32 PSI each, I'm now averaging 34 MPG! I figured it was a fluke on the first fill-up, but it's been consistent. If your tires aren't at the proper PSI, fill them! For the record, I do probably 75% highway.
