What kind of alarm system do you have ( if any )

Post by ArcsVibe »

I am just curious, first thing I did when I picked up my baby is to put on an alarm system. I went with a Clifford XL-2500.What do you guys have?

None. If they're gonna get it, they're gonna get it. No one listens to alarms anymore.

"None. If they're gonna get it, they're gonna get it. No one listens to alarms anymore."It sure would have stopped thieves from stealing my stereo, amp, and speakers when I had my Dodge Caravan. I used to have your type of mentality about car alarms until it happened to me. I think I wouldn't have burned with rage so much if they would have just taken the vehicle. But knowing that they were right outside my window going through my vehicle with no problem made me sick to my stomach. I felt violated, and I didn't even want my Dodge Caravan anymore. They took their sweet time in the middle of the night. An aftermarket alarm system is not expensive and is worth the added security. The factory alarm is "ok", but the thieves that got into my Caravan disarmed the factory alarm by just unlocking the passenger door (Same way to disarm Vibe factory alarm). If I would have had an aftermarket alarm it would have went off regardless of unlocking the door or just breaking in. An aftermarket alarm was the first "mod" to go on my Vibe. It will probably never happen again but the next thief will not have it so easy and will catch a swift beating from the man still in his boxer shorts!

Does anyone know if LoJack interferes with an alarm? Is LoJack enough?

I'm considering LoJack. Should be completely independent of the alarm. The alarm is theft deterrent. The LoJack is theft recovery. For more info: http://www.lojack.com/

There's a version of the Lo-Jack that's "preventive"... Basically it activates if the car is moved without a little keyfob you have. It'll call you..ask if it's authorized, and if not, the search starts. The traditional version of the lo-jack, that is only activated if you call the police, does not have a monthly fee (I believe.)Go to lojack.com (or whatever) and look. This is based on some research I saw recently.

I couldn't find info on fees and stuff on their site...but I know for a fact the standard lojack has no monthly fee...Makes sense for that early warning system though...

My co-worker,who went out got a matrix a week b4 i got the vibe, had lojack installed. He tells me that he paid for the systems up front, which inlcuded an alarm as well, with no monthly cost. In his version, he has to call the police and activate. He also said that he heard of the other system, but all he could do was specualte on its cost.my 2 cents

Here we have 2 tracking system available.Boomerang and Vigil. Bommerang works with cell phone technologies (btw is is a Bell mobility cellular phone in the box) and Vigil works with GPS technology. So, if you have a Boomerang and your car is out of range from Bell Mobility network, your car cannot be traced.Anyways, if thief really wants your car, there's so many way to cancel the tracking system that he will stole your car.I have a 2 way combo alarm system/ remote starter with pager built by G.I.T security.http://www.gitsecurity.com/eng/home.htmI have the PL-7100TWM.It is not the best one on hte market but at least, if someone try to steal my car in my driveway, my remote will tell it to me.And I the confirmation my car has started when I press the button.

Perhaps for the service that calls you when your car is moved without your authorization, but for the simple transponder that is activated by police, there is no monthly fee. As I said, my parents have it in both their cars.

Hi, I'm currently trying to decide if it is worth adding an alarm to my Vibe. I can understand that if a thief wants the car or contents, they will get it, but for deterant factor and peace of mind which is better to have? A factory installed alarm, or an aftermarket one? Can anyone comment on the differences and the advantages of one type over another? Also, what features should you look for? Simply a basic alarm or something with disabiling capabilities? Thanks

Lose the factory ones, they really are no good and most kids know how to defeat it. Stick with a good alarm with a kill switch.Good luck!

I have the crimestopper alarm with the remote pagin system and I love it! Nothing will stop an expierenced thief if he really wants your stuff but this one wil come damn close! If your alarm goes aff you recieve a page from your key pad and tells you if it was a sensor of if a door is open- also has remote starting features- only down side- the range for the page is varried by your suroundings-

No alarm for me. I live in Iowa City, one of the lowest car theft citys per capita in the country. The only person that cares about your alarm going off is you, and maybe your neighbors if it goes off a 4:00 in the morning. I remember one time at the Quad CIty Airshow my Father and I watched an alarm go off on a Mustang like 30 times because the sounds and the vibrations from the airplanes would set it off. That dude musta had a dead battery by the end of the day.

I've found a company in Canada called Mass Electronics (which comes reccomened by my dealer), they have a variety of system configurations from basic alarm to 2way paging and even imobilization so the car itself will not start unless you're in it with the fob. If anyone is interested in checking it out the dir is www.mass.ca.Unfortunetely they don't list prices so I'll have to make some calls and find out.

I had LoJack installed on my Vibe w/i a week of purchasing her. I think I paid $300 for installation, or something like that. As it was stated above, LoJack is theft recovery. The idea seemed silly to me until my Altima was stolen from in front of my apartment building. I would have given anything to see the theives get caught, but they didn't. The LoJack instruction manual instructs you to not leave the manual in the car, so that the thief doesn't know that the cops can track them. It's all about catching them red-handed.About the stock alarm, it is close to worthless. Unless you are within 100' of your car when someone breaks into it, the noise won't help you. As stated above, once you start the car (by any means necessary), the alarm cuts off. After my Altima was stolen and recovered, I installed an alarm equipped with a kill switch. Believe me when I tell you that the car WILL NOT START unless you disable it.Imagine my surpsrise when I walked out to my Altima, and learned that I left the head lights on. The car did not have enough power to start or to disengage the alarm, but it had just enough to keep the alarm blaring.Anyhow, my Vibe doesn't have an aftermarket alarm. She will be getting one soon.

"my Altima was stolen from in front of my apartment building. I would have given anything to see the theives get caught, but they didn't."I think that most of the people who don't care to have an aftermarket alarm or LoJack installed really don't know how bad that feeling is. I used to feel the same way about aftermarket alarms until my vehicle was broken into. I understand that if a person wants your vehicle bad enough that person will get it, but the feeling of violation when a person "doesn't" steal your car and instead goes through it taking whatever he/she pleases is horrible. I think I wouldn't feel as bad if someone stole my car rather than just break into it and take what they want right under my nose. When someone breaks into your vehicle you just don't feel the same way about it.-Savoy-

I'm with you on that one Savoy. Now imagine that not only was your car broken into and stolen, but vandalized to boot. I did not feel the same way about my car after that.I was gonna tint my windows next, but I think an alarm equipped with a kill switch has become a priority as a result of this thread.

ALARM and horn

Post by chung7 »

Hi All,I am hoping to put in some new HELLA SUPERTONE horns. However, I now have second thoughts because I will also install an alarm. With the new alarms, the hella horns are going to be SUPER LOAD (too loud I think).Question: does anyone have an alarm system that uses some other sound for their siren besides the car horns?Much thanks for any suggestions.RichP.S. what alarm do you think I should get?

Most after market car alarms use a new siren without using the horn- unless you want it hooked up to the horn. Crime stopper and Code Alarm are two that I have used and both of them use a new siren
