From the latest storm track for hurricane Irene, it looks like the northeast might get the brunt of this one, more than mid-atlantic, but since you yanquis haven't mentioned it yet and I'm in MD, I posted in mid atlantic subforum Should make for an "interesting" weekend. Good luck to anyone impacted. Park your Vibes in a safe placefor hurricane tracking I like the interactive map at http://stormpulse.com/atlantic
I'm it her path, just west of Virginia Beach. I boarded up my downstairs windows. Not possible to board up the upstairs windows. Nobody around me did. Maybe I'm over reacting, but I sat through Isebelle and that was pretty scarey stuff.

Go out to move the car, and Turns out the battery in my Vibe is kaput, won't take a charge from the an external charger. I need to go out and get a new battery so I have the car availble to use the AC inverter to power stuff when the power is out. Not what I planned to do this morning.
Hope you can find a battery, been a steady rain here since 11AM,Wind is picking up.The trailor park my 1 daughters family lives in was evacuated this AM also, thay went to the in -laws.

Got the new battery in by 10 this am. Vibe is fine now. Power went out at 5 pm At least I can charge up the droid when I run the battery down.Nothing to do now but listen to the wind, the rain, and the trees cracking and falling.

No damage to the house or cars this time. Can't drive anywhere because the roads are blocked by downed trees. So really, for me this one was just an anxiety event.I know K-NINE got slammed hard, hope he's ok.
Some local areas that flood all the time, shocking enough, flooded. The delaware river is expected to crest 4-6ft above flood stage. So some more flooding.Minor wind damage, for us. My french drains I added to the yard kept our flooding to nada.Didn't lose power, which is what is really shocking, considering we lose power if we get minor rain storms. Still getting 30-50mph wind gusts at the moment. All in all I would say we suffered minor damage. I know some friends who have flooded basements and damaged trees.

I got my power back already. When Isabelle came through, it took 11 days before my power was restored. We're doing fine. Lots of yard debris to clean up, but no serious damage. Others around me are not so lucky. Lots of flooding. The good news is that the hurricane put out the Dismal Swamp fire that's been smoking us out for weeks now. Yes a swamp can catch fire. Thanks for all the kind word guys.

Lots of trees in wires. This was the closest one to my house, where my road intersects with the main road. The road is now cleared, and I got my cable back yesterday, but still no power. The news has lots of videos of terrible flooding in VT, makes the random trees down in my area seem fairly trivial

Thanks for the offer, but I think I'll just go Amish (without the livestock) for a few more daysEdit 8/31/2011 - Power came back on this afternoon, was out for four days, 25 minutes. TV talking heads are already hypiing the next hurricane, "Katia" If it hits, at least there will be fewer trees to get blown over.
Power was out for 12 hours. I beat the rush at 7-11 and cleaned them out of ice to keep my refrigerator and freezer up to temp. I kept the water at bay by bailing out my sump pump with an empty clorox 2 bottle and then did the mouth ciphon into the floor drain. I also loaned out my power saw the next day to a neighbor whose tree fell over. I now have 4 huge truck loads of tree mulch in my back yard. I've been dragging wheel barrels up the hill for the past couple of days; what a workout. I even had a snake in my house; second one this year. Wasn't big enough to bar-b-que however.
