Vibe 2009 replacement head unit?

Post by alex_nrv »

Hello! In my Vibe 2009, I have the Monsoon audio kit and I "like..." it, but I'm sure I will get tired of it. It's weak. It does a good job of simplicity for people who aren't in touch with settings and options, but this Monsoon is boringly plain.PLUS, many of my MP3 tags aren't showing properly. I have redone EVERY single ID3 v.2 tags with a program for tags... and 50% of them aren't showing properly. When one song in an album works fine, all the songs from that album work fine... but when only one song in the album doesn't show properly, all the songs from this album aren't properly showing. I tried reburning the files on another brand of CD, at a lower speed... to no avail! I tried RE-re-doing the tags of random bands I knew were bad... but still have the same problem...SO, I will get fed up by this radio and try to get a new one someday.BUT, I have some doubts about the shape of the outer frame/trim/faceplate... The hole for the head unit is great, it can probably can take many headunits with an LCD screen, but I don't know what happens to the 4 corners that are sticking out?...(Eject, FAV, Clock, Scan)Are there any "patching trims" made specifically for the Vibe 2009 to cover this particular shape?OH, and I am also concerned about the steering wheel controls, which I use a lot. Are they pluggable to many headunits out there? Thanks!

Metra makes both standard and double din install kits that fill the areas you are concerned about. As long as the new radio supports steering wheel inputs you can buy an adapter from PAC, I think is the name, to retain those controls.

Cool! Thanks for the input, Dayday! At least I have some clues.I read some forums about radio swap and it seems to be a pain in the (removed). At least I know there's plastic frames to fill the gaps (there's called DIN?)Thanks!

Actually the radio swap was a breeze. If you check out my garage u can see what the trim piece looks like installed.

Swapping a radio is easy... retaining other functionality (steering wheel controls, OnStar, chimes, adding another satellite radio) is a pain in the ***.

Cool, I took a look at you radio, it looks sleek! It's only weird to see this thin radio instead of the bulky stock one! (Does the BASE Vibe has the same radio (minus the MP3) as the Vibes with the Audio package and Monsoon sound system??)

Yes, it is the same radio. That was the first thing to go in my car. Now I have a DVD/NAV system in there.

The chimes (key left in when door open, buckle seat belt etc) come through the radio thanks to GM using their LAN system
