Fuel filter replacement on an 05 Base model?

Post by Gandalf »

I want to replace the fuel filter on my 05 Base Vibe.Where is it located, and are there any tricks to doing the job?I'm hoping it's not inside the gas tank...but i don't see it inside the engine compartment, as I hoped.Generally, for things like this, i have been buying Toyota parts....because they aren't GM:hammer: , and I assume it came with a Toyota fuel filter on it.Any reason not to use a Toyota fuel filter? Are there any that will work as well, but cost a little less? I assume the Toyota part is sort of pricey, like they all are, but I haven't checked yet.Any other advice, hints, etc., especially from anyone who has done this, will be greatly appreciated.I've done the fuel filter on a Honda Civic...but it was on the firewall, and extremely easy to get to. I just put a rag over it, when I loosened the fuel line; very little gas came out...no fire. A 15 minute job, at most. Thanks, guys

Sorrysee if http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=37065 helps anyAlso, if you are going to get the filter froma a dealer, then check both GM and Toyota. depending on the part, sometimes Toyota is cheaper than GM, other times GM is cheaper than Toyota. Sometimes by a lotOn these cars changing the fuel filter is typically an "only when needed" item, instead of a regularly scheduled maintenance task. Why do you think yours needs replaced?

It isn't as easy as you would hope. The fuel tank is under the rear seat. Like joatmon said, it isn't a regularly scheduled maintenance item. Are you experiencing something that you think would warrant a replacement fuel filter?

Non-serviceable fuel filter, aka it is in the gas tank like others have stated.Do not change it unless your fuel filter goes kaput

I wanted to do it because it hasn't been done, and I couldn't find a schedule for replacement.I haven't had any trouble...I just prefer to do more maintenance, and less repair. It's hard to believe that a fuel filter will last as long as the vehicle....but I'm sure not up for removing the gas tank, to get at it.!Thanks, guys.
