First post here ....so hi there yall !!!ok i just bought a reconstructed US vibe. and since im in Canada our measure are kilometer and celsius. the cluster is US so farenheit and miles. Is there something to do with this. i guess i could go in a scrap and change the cluster but here there more than 100$. also i guess its the computer who is responsible for my vibes milleage and the outside temperature so even swapping a cluster the digital stuff is controled by the ECU.sorry a loty of text.besides changing my whole cluster could i just change the speed diagram or what?thanks ahead and great forum
And the odometer will register up to 299,999 miles - not just 299,999 km which is only 186,411 miles.

What would be the point in that - the US version already has markings for mph and kph.

Quote, originally posted by Old Tele man »...ah, but "markings" are different than "distances," ie: "odometer" 'kilometers' vs. 'miles' (5,280 feet).see this earlier post "You probably could just switch the overlay in the cluster itself, but the odometer would still be recording miles."

The odometer reading is stored in the instrument cluster, not the car's computer. The instrument cluster can be reprogrammed to have the odometer/trip meters and thermometer display in metric units, but not without some specialized equipment.I messed around with the deal in http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=32956 for a while, not sure if I got my adapter wrong, if the PROM has to be unsoldered from the circuit board to be reprogrammed, or if I just didn't have the parallel port set up for bidirectional IO or perhaps something else. I have about 48K miles to go until my cluster hits the magic 299999, so I'll figure it out before then. If you figure it out, let me know
Just buy the cluster at 100$. If it's too expensive, then just live with it.I don't mean to be rude, but that's reality.I bought a couple of years ago a Golf 96 cluster fo about 120$... I regained about 14,000km on the odo but the car wasn't meant to be sold afterward.BTW, welcome to GenVibe, and second, you didn't specify your make... 1st or 2nd gen?
On ebay they can be had purchased for less than $50. You're looking for a Base Vibe or Matrix 03-04 cluster. The 05+ Base and the 03-04 GT gauges are different. As said before you will need to have a Speedometer specialist reprogram the cluster if you want the mileage to match up with the car. Edit: The deleted link I had was for a US cluster. My bad.
