Subwoofers vs. Rear View Mirror

Post by vibe5264 »

So, I recently got a set of kicker 12" subwoofers that I installed into my '05 base vibe, and I'm concerned about the rear view mirror falling off and/or getting stripped out. Since I got the subs, the mirror aims permanently at the ground, because it falls the whole way down after every single bass hit. My question is how can I prevent it from falling off of my windshield, as I feel it inevitably will fall down? Anyone else have any experience here?

That's an easy one to answer:1) If the mirror is not staying in place under "normal" circumstances, you have a mirror that's worn out and needs to be replaced. Or,2) Turn the volume/subwoofers down. No one wants to hear the bass line from your choice of music emanating from your car 3 miles away anyway. Rant: We live out in the country and hear this all the time. Our house is well insulated and has double glazed vinyl windows, but we often hear these BOOM cars from literally several miles away. It drives us nuts!! Its personally invasive to everyone but those in the car.Subwoofers are supposed to enhance the music experience, not BE the music experience. The other thing I love about subs in cars is that it seems everyone forgets to insulate the deck lid or hatch so that they vibrate vertically to the beat. (I actually experienced this while sitting at a light next to a Dodge Charger. The subs overpowered the sound of my own car.AND they also don't seem to realize that the license plate vibrates annoyingly if not isolated./Rant.

last i checked a few years back in my 04 my sub at usual listening level hits at 131.1 dB. my mirror bobbles around a lot but it doesn't point down ever. either the mirror is old and needs to be replaced, or you really need to tune the sub.
None. Vibe is gone.

Here's what I got...And I experienced the same thing with my mirror. When the bass hit, it would instantly point down.I would be looking at my rear seat or my center console (depending on which song was playing) After about 2yrs....Mirror fell offI have put it up twice in the past few months, but now it won't stay...even used the most expensive kit I could find Oh well...no more rearview

Well, you can always go custom. Make a little triangular prism which can mount to the windshield with suction cups or something, an house the mirror in there. Put it on adjustable tracks which curve, so you can have it regular, or in the dimmed position. Or just use an auto-dimming rearview mirror in this little prism thing.

I've looked into aftermarket mirrors, but mine has 2 map lights, so there's a power cord that could be used for SOMETHING, so i dunnomost aftermarket mirrors are just that...plain ole' mirrors

Here's an aftermarket that'd surely hold up to our subs And one mounted on the roof (although I'm not sure that'd work for a Vibe)

Better than mine! And that's what I was afraid of. Looks like if it ever does fall off, I'm going to have to talk to the dealer. Haha.

If I turn my 1-12" up loud enough it the mirror will be pointing south. I've learned to keep the bass much lower than that.
