Looking for opinions on a new setup

Post by jscherf92 »

hey guys, im starting a new project soon and id some thoughts on different ideas for the sound system. Feel free to suggest alternatives or other ideas, there is nothing better than a good think tank for stuff like this. Basically its 4" speakers in the front, 4"x6" in the back and there is plenty of space for subwoofer(s) in the back.As of right now im thinking about the Polk Audio db401's for the front, and db651's in the back. From what ive read, they are great speakers and alot of people use the 6.5" version in the vibe. Now for the tricky part, im thinking about a single 15" Fi Audio Q in the back. Right now i have a pair of 10" alpine type E's so obviously this will be a huge upgrade. My concern is that even with a sealed box ill be lacking any kind of mid range between the smaller speakers and the large sub. Would it be a good idea to look into midbass drivers or do you think it would be balanced after proper tuning?Im also thinking about adding an additional pair of speakers, mounted to the sub enclosure. ill admit its only to show off, and ill probably have a kill switch on them unless the hatch is up. Seeing as how many of you are more experienced than I with different setups and sounds, what are your thoughts? I appreciate the input.

I wouldn't go smaller in the front and back. Especially if you are concerned about losing mid bass. May be 6.5" components upfront and a decent pair of 6.5" coaxial's in back. I have 6.75" Kappas upfront with 6.5" Infinity reference in back and with my 3 12's I don't feel that I'm losing out on the mid bass frequencies at all.

Why would you "go with" a 4" speaker in the front when they fit a 6.5? That's the first part of the problem... And why would you "go with" a 4x6 in the rear, when a 5.25/6.5 fits back there?? That's the second part... The rest should take care of itself... Well, maybe not... See the 2 links in my signature, especially BCAE1... spend some time, please...

Sorry for the confusion, this was more of an overall question, not just for the vibe. My friend has a 240sx and he "hired" me to hunt down a setup for him. Those sizes were for the stock speakers in a nissan, not the vibe. My concern was with the small 4" speakers and the oddly shaped 4x6's not producing enough in the lower frequency range to cover the gap between them and the subwoofer.

When I had a 92 Silverado Ex cab I made it work. I had 3 Kicker 12's in a box that took up the whole back seat space... It only had 4x6's in the front and rear. For the most part they sounded great, but on faster rock songs the bass was too much. If adjusted right anything can sound good but 1 its personal preference, and 2 its what components you connect to everything....I'd say see what you can do about installing something larger but if not look at the ratings of everything and see what you can do... I am not sure what you listen to, but a a 15 could be a little large and have some frequency gaps....

I donno nothin bout Nissans... lol.. I do know 4's and 4x6's suck terribly.. I'd run mutiple 8" subs and run the crossover freq high, like 100-140hz to bring up the midbass...

I was thinking; they do have rubber baffels for the smaller speakers that are supposed to make them sound better. Not sure if they work or not but maybe....I think it really comes down to the sound your looking for. Do they have kick pannel pods for that car?
