Not sure where to start here. After the dentist today I needed a pick-me-up. So I popped the hood and started wiring up my angel eyes. I got the DRL disabled and still have the working auto lights. I then ran all the wires for the angel eyes. It started to get dark so I had to stop. I went to put the hood down and the latch wouldn't latch. I checked the cable and it had little resistance so I figured the cable broke. But I didnt stop there. I kept playing with everything and it turns out the latch seemed to be hanging up. I took off the little plastic cover and I could get my fingers inside the latch. I feel that the cable is not getting sprung back to the locked position. I could push it back but when you slammed the hood it would pop open again. Any ideas? Should I get a new latch? Cable? Or try taking it apart and see if I can replace the spring?
I was just dealing with this issue. I sprayed some WD40 on the latch, let it set for about a minute, and then all is well now. I had been dealing with it for almost 6 months and finally got around to taking 5 minutes (mostly to find it) to spray and good as new!

A new latch is expensive. I sprayed it with WD but it only helped a little. It still wont stay latched. It starts then pops open. Ill try taking it apart again tonight and do it again. We shall see.
My 2006 is doing the same thing. I don't know much about cars, but I used the WD-40 about 2 months ago then took it to a body shop to get it checked out. They said it was fine. I just had the problem again, so my dad greased everything. He said something about the smaller spring sticking. It would open, but not go back to a compressed postion. Hopefully it works, just did this today. Good luck with yours.
