Vibe no go

Post by jimincalif »

My 07 Vibe with 25k miles died last night. My daughter was driving started up a hill and the engine would not respond to the throttle and CEL came on. She had it towed to our regular shop and today it is working perfectly. Code indicates fault I the throttle system but no way to further diagnose until it does it again. Its not a matter of just restarting it, the AAA driver could not get it to go either. Suggestions? I am in N Carolina my daughter is in SoCal and I can't have her driving a car that might just suddenly stop in an unsafe situation. FYI I bought the car new. All regular maintenance done. It was part of the PCM recall but we took it in and dealer said it did not have a defective unit. Thx.

Quote, originally posted by jimincalif »It was part of the PCM recall but we took it in and dealer said it did not have a defective unit.If it's part of the recall, it's part of the recall. The part number on the PCM is all they should have needed to know that. How they could turn away a customer when dealers are getting fully reimbursed for work from corporate is beyond me. Either the dealer didn't want to help, or they were simply not trained properly to look for the right info. What you describe is what happened to my 2006. Just died at 45 MPH. And after the PCM swap out, I have had no issues for nearly 4 years. Here is the thread with the PDF she'll need and our discussion on the topic: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=42564I have attached the PDF anyhow, so you can send it along to your daughter. She can probably get under there with a flashlight and find it herself (the PDF shows the location by the glove compartment). Not much they can say if she's able to produce the page, with her number correlating. If she's not handy with cars, maybe someone out there can give her a hand after she prints off the pdf.Come to think of it, other members here have had service personnel ask if they can make a copy of the sheet. Why? Because some of them have never seen it before. Hard to do their job when nobody is equipping them with the right tools.Sorry you're not there to help your daughter. But this should help. The Vibe is too good of a car to have something so small incapacitate it. It'll be running like champ after they figure out if the PCM really is involved. Which I am 99% sure it is, according to your post. Good luck.

It's got a defective PCM now. Take it back in, tell them what happen, show them the tow bill.

Was she really low on gas? On a decent hill the fuel in the tank may have sloped away from the intake of the fuel pump.

Thanks all. Flew home last night, picked up the car this morning, it is running fine. Here is the rest of the story. Our regular mechanic kept the car and drove it Weds morning and it failed again. Based on the codes he said it looks like the computer, so we had it towed to the GM dealer on Thursday. Friday they tell me that the AC drain tube has clogged up and got the ECM and its connections wet and that it would cost $300 for labor to clear the drain, dry out the connectors, etc. I authorized this. Now on the repair paperwork they have the labor for this, referring to the "ECM". But then they also have a second entry that it was showing code P0607 and they replaced the "PCM" under warranty for an "internal failure".So who knows? Maybe the clogged drain thing was to get $300 out of me and didn't cause the failure. Or maybe it really was clogged and wet but that really didn't cause the problem. I'll probably never know, but hopefully I won't have any further issues. In any case, it might be a good idea for us Vibe owners to make sure the AC condensate drain tube is clear.
