Just can't get a comfortable position driving.

Post by Speedqueen »

Hi, Have had the Vibe for a week now and I just can't get a comfortable driving position. Seems the clutch is too far away for full depress and the accelerator too close. The steering tilt and telescope doesn't have the range I'd like. I'm not "tall" I'm 5'7". Anybody have issues with comfort while driving? On a side note, I saw about 10 Vibes on the commute in today.

Not sure if it will help or not, but your seat will also raise (handle on the left side along the bottom bolster).I've had no issue getting comfortable (I am barely over 5'10"). I've not noticed anything about the clutch/brake/accelerator pedals being off.

You're going to have to sit closer to the wheel or jerry-rig something to the clutch pedal. Personally I wouldn't mind the pedals being spaced an extra half-inch further apart from each other, but I'm 6'4 with a size 13... a better door armrest would be nice, too!

When I first started driving the vibe my knee kept hitting the steering console. OR if I tilted away my foot wouldnt fit on the gas without hitting the brake. But eventually I got used to it without an issue. Just feel it out and see whats right for you.

It does have a very weird feel. I would like it to tilt down more and the steering wheel face AT me not up at my face. But, I just got used to it. Hope you can find a comfy position!

I too am only 5'-7" but have short legs and a longer upper body. With a small shoe size of 8, I have no problems with the three pedals down below although it would have been nice if there would have been a way to space them further apart With the seat at it's highest point the armrests (door & console) are nowhere near my arms and pretty much useless. Another one of my many mods to correct this upcoming winter. Depending on your upper/lower body ratio on your 5'-7" frame, you may have to do some modding to your seating arrangements. Good luck

I like a "reclining" position of the seat. Yes the tilt steering needs to go down a bit.I'll get used to itBig winter skidoo boots will be out of the question when the cold comes and the snow flies.Hahahaha...I drove with one shoe on yeaterday and barefoot the day before..Speedy

Five years and 150,000 miles later, and I can still never get comfortable. I have grown used to i, though. I'm 5'10" 165 pounds. I don't see how large people can drive it. I agree that the cluch pedal should be raised up a bit to closer to the driver. I also wish the seat would stay pumped up for more than five minutes. Complaining aside, I'm still happy with my Vibe.

Hmm, I have an 03 and unfortunately no clutch, so no relevance really, but my Vibe is the first comfortable car I've ever driven. I'm 5'5" and drive with the back a little reclined and the (removed) part all the way down. On a long haul I just sit with my hands rested at the bottom of the wheel, very comfy!

Seems to suit me fine as i'm 6' 1" and 300lbs .....auto tranny. I have my seat down as far as it goes and have lots of head room. The only thing I dont like is the steering wheel positioning when turning. Can't adjust it to my liking.

Have you tried playing with the seat height adjustment at all with different positions with the recline?

Yeah, will keep playing with it. I think I'm probably just having growning pains and still in mourning for our old wheels.edited to fix duplicate word

There is another thread where a member added some washers to the front seat rails to make the seat recline more.

I am 5'6" - 5'7" and I have the seat pushed back and down as far as it will go. The steering wheel is up and toward the driver as far as it will go. I keep the seat slightly reclined, but not too much. I typically drive with my left hand on the lower left side of the steering wheel with my elbow resting on my leg and my right arm either on the shifter (auto) or on the center console. I find this position very comfortable. Like everyone else has said, it takes some getting used to when you get a new vehicle. You will need to play around with different seating positions to find what feels right to you. Good luck!
