after noticing 5 a's in my area of long island i was impressed with theirowners keeping up their appearance.wikopedia has some interestinginfo and i found a site aztekfanclub.com that has 1000 members.perhaps we should revisit our disdain for our older relative.
I never understood the hate for the Aztek. There is another thread where I pointed out the Aztek parked next to a Vibe and about it being the predecessor and the immediate hatred expressed towards the Aztek oozed for many posts.I liken it to hating your Parents, for the Vibe sprang from the Aztek. You are right though, I've noticed that all of the examples I've seen are very well kept and maintained.Dave
I guess the Aztec is kind of like the Ford Edsel. The Edsel had design features that were considered ahead of its time but the car was plain UGLY....LOL. The Aztec concept didnt look too bad. Maybe 20 years maybe the Aztec will be more appreciated for what it was trying to accomplish. Who knows???

. The Aztec, to me, gives a "face" to GMs mistreatment of the Vibe, since the Aztec is pretty much the father of the Vibe, and thus the Aztec is a beacon of hate for me and my Vibe. All personification aside, the Aztec is a hugely practical vehicle, it is just ugly as sin and shows what a car designed by committee can end up as. Also: cladding, and why painted cladding is better! I should buy an Aztec and wait for it to reach Edsel status.

Heeeyyyyyyyyy I have come to terms and actually LIKE my grey cladding TYVM lol.BUT I do agree that the Aztec has way too much, I considered one, but I would not have loved it NEAR as much as I love the Vibe... I don't mind them, I think it's unique looking, not particularly GOOD looking, but interesting to the eye, I notice a different line, angle, etc. Every time I see one.
I have seen a couple Azteks here and there that aren't bad looking. Pretty well kept, less of the hideous cladding, etc. but I don't know if I'd ever actually want one .I must admit there is a yellow one around Sandwich that always catches my eye when I see it. It's always nice and clean and seems to be in excellent shape. I wouldn't mind having a yellow one and thus getting the license plate "SHRT BUS" !My opinion of the Aztek is that is was a great concept that was poorly executed.

If you put a Buick Rendezvous side by side with the Aztek, you'd see why the Aztek gets so much hate. Both are platform siblings, yet the Buick is tasteful, simplistic, maybe even boring because it's so restrained. The Aztek on the other hand is everything that Pontiac did wrong in the look department: Nostrils? We got four! Honeycomb mesh in each one too! Cladding? More than sheet metal! Beltlines? How about one at wheel level, and one at door handle level! Rear glass? You get TWO panes of it! Miss the 1988-1993 Le Mans? We've created a two story version of it!The 2003-2005 Vibes had a taste of the Azteks, but only a tiny bit. By the 2006 facelift, the Vibe had more in common with the rest of the Pontiac lineup than the Aztek.

I believe they did away with a majority of cladding after the first year or two of production. That definitely did make them better looking. I those wheels! Very nice for factory !

Those would definitely look great on your Vibe !I always wanted the Millie Miglia wheels for my former Sunfire GT because those are the wheels that were on the Sunfire GXP concept, but unfortunately they discontinued them before I could get some .

I think with the rounded wheel wells, it looks more like a vibe sibling. Still not a fan of the front end though

The side exit exhaust, or fake side exit exhaust?, is very cheesy looking and those rims and fenders are absolutely ridiculous IMO.

I think it's very unique looking still, and better than the other way for me. I agree, if the side ex was less overdone, like less chrome there that would look nicer. Im just a fan of the SUV-like cars, and thats what this turned it into

I've gotta agree that the exhaust is a bit much, but i definitely think it's better looking than a stock aztek. Like i said ealier, with the rounded wheel arches it has amore vibey...vibe.

I would never own or drive a 2001 Aztek but the 2002-2005 version had the cladding toned down and painted body color so it looked pretty good. I would own one
