What kind of transmission fluid do GM dealers use?

Post by BrettZ »

As the subject states. I know Dexron III was discounted in favor of Dexron VI. But it seems Dexron VI is not compatible with the vibe. I know Toyota T-IV is ideal. But would a GM dealer stock it in house?Normally I would drive down to the Toyota dealer for some T-IV but I have a family member at a GM dealer and part/labor costs are dramatically reduced.

I just had my transmission flushed at the local dealer, can't think off the top of my head what they put back in. But, if you are going to have that done you should get your radiator flushed and get the dexcool out and put in Prestone green extended life. I'm having my radiator flushed this week and getting dexcool out as it is not good and can cause many problems.

I assumed whatever was the problem, if there was a problem, had been corrected. FYI see http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/...17832

You will have to ask your dealer what they use/used. Not all dealers are the same. I would get the transmission flushed at a Toyota dealer. That is what I do (I'd rather pay them $200 than do three drain and fills myself, which costs close to $100 in fluid anyway). I know my local Pontiac dealer told me that they didn't have the necessary equipment to do a flush on the Vibe because it is a Toyota drive train. They would have just done a drain and fill. Dexcool is fine. Toyota's extended life is basically the same. You just have to make sure to change it at the recommended intervals or sooner. It doesn't handle air getting into the system well. That said, the Prestone extended life is also good.
