Water Pump

Post by crash21 »

I have a 2006 vibe and when I was getting my 60k mile service I was told my water pump is leaking. Has anyone else had problems with theirs and had it replaced? I'm not taking it back to my local dealer here in Iowa they were charging way too much; taking it to a dealer about 45 min away as they gave me the best price.

Haven't had an issue with the water pump on my '05 with almost 120,000 miles.

LEAKING or WEEPING ??Big difference.Water pumps are designed to WEEP a little. Pressure, spinning and the nature of seals dictate that a little coolant will indeed get by the seal. They provided a hole in the bottom of the pump to let this coolant drip away.BUTYou should never have a puddle from a WEEP hole. It is a very minimal quantity the escapes. There will be signs of "leakage" at the weep area and that can be used by less than honest shops to convince you to replace a water pump that is absolutely fine.A LEAKING water pump is losing a lot of coolant, puddles form and the area is soaked. This needs to be replaced ASAP so you don't overheat and ruin your engine.Do a little research and look for your self at the leak. If the honesty of your shop is even a little in question, take it elsewhere to someone trusted and have them look at it.Dave
