can someone please tell me the correct power steering fluid to use . the OM says Dextron III. but it is also says to use Dexcool coolant and that appears to be wrong.......

it's the same as your tranmission fluiddexron IIIFor a good reference point go to amsoil.com and enter your car's info and it will build a list of fluid recommendations.

our auto tranny uses Toyota type IV, the Power Sterring uses Dexron III tranny fluid. make sure the bottle says its compatible to the right type. There are fluids that are compatible for both. I use the Royal Purple ATF fluid which covers both dexron III and toyota type IV fluids.

I finally got around to doing this. I unhooked the return line and attached a plastic hose to the nipple. I had my kid start the car and I pumped out the old power steering fluid. it was nasty. a kind of mud color. I pumped though a couple of quarts of ATF. the whole thing took less than 20 minutes......I suggest you consider doing it. I could not see in the reservoir very well so I did not know had bad it was...thanks for the help
