Disabling Tire Pressure Monitor light?

Post by bpcrally »

Hey everyone,So we just picked up a 2008 Vibe which came with TPM standard. It's a nice feature however the sensors are in our stock (winter) wheels. So with the summer wheels on the light stays on.After much researching it appears there is no way to just shut it off, but I did find this mod in a Toyota forum. Just wondering if anyone else has done something similar, or if you know where the TPM wires are in our cars?http://www.toyotanation.com/fo...=tpmsIt would be nice to have something we could shut off in the summer, and then hook back up in the winter. I'm not really big on the idea of just sticking a piece of tape over the light.

Looks like alot of work.....here's an easy mod, just cover the light with black electrical tape in the summer and take the tape off in the winter.....it's just a thought and probably how I would do it. lol

I get the tape idea but would it not look kinda ghetto? What about actually taking the custer out and putting tape on the inside so you cant see it? From what i read the cover should pull right off. and then you open up the cluster, cover the light with tape and boom! done!Any thoughts?

Why don't you just buy the sensors for the summer wheels as well? That way you can keep the light, and keep from having to pull out the cluster constantly.

I just took the front plastic off and put the tape inside the plastic. Just pull the bezel out and you should be able to see the tabs that hold the plastic on.

because i dont want to spend $400+ on it. plus apparently it only remembers the 4 sensors at a time, i read in the matrix forum you have to get it reprogrammed everytime you swap wheels. cash grab.

If you had two sets of wheels with two sets of TPMSs, you would need to have them re-programmed every time you switched wheels. I would either put tape over the light or just learn to ignore it. These are your two best options.

mods: thanks for the improved search engine. I really hate posting whores who start new threads when there are ample to chose from already. All: I decided to replace one of the cheap aluminum tire pressure monitor stems with a rubber valve after the aluminum snapped in half. As you know, the TMPS light now stays on. Will I fail inspection as a result of a dash warning light being on all the time, or do the state inspectors ignore the TPMS light? Thanks in advance.

I had to put my winter tires (that have the sensors) in the back of the Vibe so the light would stay out. I would have failed the out of province inspection if the light was on. But you should call an inspection center and ask them. And I ignore my tpms light.
