Used Vibe 2007 with intermittent rough idle

Post by cythraul »

Hi,I just got my 2007 Vibe last night. It's got 140km on it.I'd love to share pictures but my wife already left with it! There's only a small problem that the dealer assured me was nothing but I'd prefer confirming here. When I went to see it on Monday, it was running perfectly fine but on idle the motor would shake rather violently and the RPM was a bit low.Still on idle, if we started the AC, the fan would start and the idle was normal. While they prepped it, the local mech told me that it had been sitting too long with an almost empty tank and before I initially went to see it, they only put the minimum amount of gaz in the tank and of course they drove it to the station to accomplish that which compounded the issue by lifting dirt from the bottom of the tank and carrying it in the injectors. So he tells me that he cleaned the injector. Ok, I don't have a broad knowledge on mechanic but I'm pretty sure you can't clean injectors without dissembling something and he did not look like someone who took that much time to fix the issue. He recommended to fill it twice with high octane and run pour an injector cleaner that is, surprise, on sale at my local Canadian Tire this week. Two days ago they call me to tell me the car is ready and it's idling fine. So yesterday I pick it up and indeed it runs fine. This morning tho, I fill the tank with normal octane (as directed in the owner manual) and rough idling is back again but only intermittently.Should I proceed with the high octane and injector cleaner? Any recommended brand? Thanks!cyth

Yes but make sure you document what you have done and if it doesn't straighten out take it back to them. What injector cleaner are you using. Most of the good stuf is about $10 a can.

The guy recommenced Motomaster Fuel Injector Cleaner. It's usually 9.99$ but it's on sale this week at 4.99$. I bought one a few minutes ago awaiting your recommendation. http://www.canadiantire.ca/bro...92785I figure that before going as far as getting it back to the dealer, I could also try putting in new sparks plugs. Tho, on that car, they're a bit pricey. Gotta browse the forum to see which one are recommenced. In any case, the powertrain is still covered by GM until 09/08/2012 or 20k and we do half that mileage per year...Btw, while driving to pick up my oldest and driving to get that bottle, I noticed that even tho the AC is off, when switching on the (sorry, not sure on the correct terms here) inside fan, the radiator fan will also start. Same thing if I switch off the interior fan, the radiator fan will shut off... normal?cyth

Just a quick report. We drove around 100km since my last post and the rough idle is resolved. I assume the injectors cleaner did it's magic. Tho, I'm still worried about the radiator fan starting when we switch on the interior fan...cyth
