There's this clicking/klacking noise from what seems to be my front axles when I go over small bumps. The noise can be heard going 5 mph up to 30 mph over bumps, even the slightest bumps. I was wondering if the joints need to be lubed every so often or if some component in my front drive area needs to be lubed? Come to think of it, the noise could also be coming from my steering wheel shaft/column. Let me know if any of you have had this type of problem before. Thanks.
i've had an intermittent problem with this since my car was new. kind of a rattle noise which i used to think was the springs but i now think is coming from my steering column. it seems to be triggered by light bumps of the front end. hitting manhole covers is too much,. more like little cracks in blacktop that have been filled with liquid tar. driving a road full of well packed snow is probably the worst-it rattles all the way down the block.i'd love to know if anyone else has found a solution.
Everyone else is very right...there are loads of things that can cause front end noise. Try to narrow it down. Does it do it more or less when you corner (more on one side vs the other)? Do you get any noise when manually shake the front corners of your car (when parked)? Can you hear it outside the car (windows down while driving) or could it be part of the dash/steering inside the car? etc. It is my understanding that our chassis are sealed, so there are no 'lubing of chassis' for the Vibe..so that can be ruled out.
the question is does the noise exist when weight is distributed evenly? or only when theres an un-even load? try rocking the car back and forth vs pushing up and down on each side and i would try turning the wheel all the way to the left and repeating everything and also turning the wheel to right and doing the same
Sounds like a stabalizer link or ball joint from the description. My guess worn stabalizer link attaching to sway bar. Check it by grabbing firmly and shaking it around as hard as you can. It may make a clicking noise if the ball stud is worn in the link.
