Problem with ID3 tags on 09 Monsoon

Post by yak »

I just got a 2009 with the Monsoon stereo. When I put MP3 files on a cd, the stereo is supposed to read title & artist info from the ID3 tags. However, instead of displaying the information that's actually recorded in the tags, i get 3 gibberish characters on the display when I press info (yPt, yPd, etc). Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Sadly there are many different versions of ID3 check your encoders preferences and try experimenting with different ones. Once you find the right version look on download.com for a batch id3 converter to do all of your songs at once.

Maybe it has to do with your files.

Hey bud have you got an honest opinion of the '09 Stereo I probably wont do anything to it once I get the car but just wondering since no internet Vibe review says anything about the Monsoon unit. Thanks

if you use something like winamp or any id3 editor, you can edit each mp3 so they should show properly.

I'm having this exact same problem.I believe it has to do with the new ID3 v2 tags as opposed to the ID3 v1 tags. My older MP3s work just fine, but most of the new ones do not (even burned on the same CD).I've been meaning to do a test, just haven't thought of it when I was burning my CDs.

I am also having this issue... I own a Vibe 2009.What I discovered is that the LAST letter of the 3 that are showing (yÞ)is the FIRST REAL letter of what the tag is supposed to be (artist, album or song title). (ie yÞG for GREEN DAY, yÞD for DOOKIE...).I am using a batch ID3 editor... Tag&Rename (It uses ID3 Tag v.2.)... for ALL AND EVERY songs I have. I recently re-tagged every single one of my MP3s...MOST songs on my burned CDs are showing properly, but SOME of them are corrupted. What's even more funny, SOMETIMES the titles will show.Sum 41 is mostly always corrupted (showing yÞS), but sometimes when I eject the CD and put it back in, the title will show correctly... It's really weird. I would expect WAY MORE quality from a package add-on of 800$ for a Monsoon head unit, amp and subwoofer.I need to test if I burn Sum 41 to another CD if it will fail to display or will actually work great...Bottom line: it SUX! it's the only real issue I have with this car, and I wonder if I really can change the head unit, since the framing is weird and because of the steering commands...

### FIXED !!!!! Re: Problem with ID3 tags on 09 Monsoon

Post by alex_nrv »

I FINALLY FOUND THE PROBLEM ON MY SIDE!!!After ignoring the problem for a while now... I went online and started again searching for bad displaying of MP3 titles on different units... and people were talking about the UNICODE format for text input...I made several tests with the SAME MP3 file, but 8 different versions... And every versions that didn't work were the ones with ID3 TAGS written in UNICODE!!!I am using the software "TAG&RENAME" that handles MANY files at once, it is very useful. In the options, I can tick a checkbox to write the tags in UNICODE or not... so I simply removed the tick from that UNICODE box and now the MP3s that were showing weird symbols ("yÞT"... etc) are not showing the proper titles/artists/albums !!!F*I*N*A*L*L*Y !!!!!!!!!!!!So now, I guess the format, if not being UNICODE, is not ANSI, Microsoft Windows' standard format... (??)I know that WinAmp (I still use an oooold version, 2.73) uses ANSI codes for ID3 tags, but you need to go ONE by ONE to re-tag them... it's a pain in the (removed). I don't know what are people using to tag, but some softwares like iTunes "must" have an option to select the format to use for TAGS... but if you don't want to mess around too much, simply get a software like TAG&RENAME (very professionnal software, I recommend it, though not free), or any other free batch rename software (sorry,I don't have names to submit...).I hope this will help someone... or even manyones!!

I've also been struggling with this issue. However, in all of my ID3 program's i don't see any options for unicode/ansi. Not in Winamp, MP3Tag or windows. Any suggestions?

The WinAmp version I use (old school 2.81) uses "Windows Code Page 1252" (also wrongly known as ANSI).But the program I am using is Tag&Rename, which lets you set the format you like. Search around for it, thoug it's NOT a freeware, you can still find it somewhere fully useable.http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm
