'09 Vibe - Where to mount tweets?

Post by TxVibe »

I have non-premium 4 speaker stereo and wanted to get a component set. Any ideas on where to mount them? The side curtain airbags kinda mess with my original plan.

The airbags are up higher than you would probably want to mount tweeters. Sail panels could be a good choice, too.

Pardon my ignorance, but where exactly are "sail panels"? Got any pics?Papacueball, you seem to be on top of all my questions. Many thanks to you.

No problem, Tx. The sail panel basically covers the bolts and wiring for the side view mirrors. Should be plenty of room behind them, too.

I like tweeters in the kickpanels myself.. High in the kick, where the dash, door, kick all meet..

Well, I know the tweeters in the Monsoon sound system are in that exact spot:

Hey I have a non monsoon system and had my tweets installed professionally in the door. Here is where they did the install. Pay no attn. to the messy black surround. The installers did a crappy job and the speaker fell out several times. So I used some special glue that should keep that from happening again. I just need to cut off the excess.

just fyi. Most auto sound manufacturers and installers recommend placing the tweeter and mid no more than a foot apart from each other due to some issue with timing. Sound travels at a certain speed and if the tweets are installed 2 feet from your ears and mids being 4-6 feet from your ears then the sound arrives at your ears at 2 different times. This may be very minute and un-hearable but this is just fyi.

Might be a good idea to get some adhesive backed velcro and try them in all the different locations. Once you cut a hole in the door panel, you're committed.

How big are your tweets? Mine are 1" and with the cups they sit in 1.5"the installer down here recommended not putting them in the sail panel because the panels have a slight curve in them and he wouldnt be able to make them sit flush. It could be done, I think... But you would have to figure out a better way to mount without the cups.Im truly interested to see how it all comes out.

This is where (in white circle) I really want to put them, mounted flush. Haven't checked if there's room to do it or not though.

Do they have a surface mount? Most have some sort of a slightly aim-able rotating cup to surface mount.. rather than flush mount..

Haven't bought any yet, but my goal is flush mount. May not be possible but will try that avenue first. Even if it means buying them separately.
