is the swap worth it if i like to tow stuff with my car and just want a funner quicker car. will it be noticalbey quicker then with a 5 speed. cause when i get on it. seems like the gears are a bit too long to get my car moving good. i got a sri and plan on doing a catback. so i figure after that i will want the 6 speed but just want to make sure that it would be worth it.
Yeah I put a 6 speed trans in my formerly 5 speed car.. I find that you just end up having to shift a lot more. Around town I'll sometimes shift 3-4-5-6 within about 10 seconds lol..
also keep in mind going to 6 speed will reduce your gas mileage, as final drive ratio is actually worse than the 5 speed. You will be running about 200rmp faster in top gear... But if you enjoy shifting, i guess its a fun mod to do
Hi, I have a turbocharged Vibe, and last year, I broke my 5 spd after over 5 years of boosting.I replaced it with a 6 spd.The great news is that the 6 spd just bolted right up. I even still have my 5 spd shifter. (This will confuse anyone who tries to rip my car off as reverse is over and up now, but also confuse the valet parking guy LOL)All of the cables and shifting levers matched up perfect. Make sure you get a Vibe or matrix 6 spd, dont mess with the celica ones, they do not match. Is it worth it?Max torque on the Vibe motor is at around 4200 rpms, When you shift at 6400 rpms, you land right there, at max torque. On the 6 spd,you land at about 5k.With the vibe GT 2zz motor, it makes sense because of the cam lift, and so the 6 speed allows you to stay in lift.I had to replace my 5 spd ,so I tried the 6 spd.I dont think it was necessary for me, because my turbo pulled right thru the tall gears in the 5 spd. There is no doubt that 2nd gear is lower in the 6 spd, and that you will feel good power in 4th and 5th gears. In the 5 spd you feel only good torque in 3rd gear , ( and i am talking about a stock motor). If I remember correctly, both 4th and 5th gears are overdrive gears, In the 6 speed, I believe it is only 6th gear that is overdrive. Ther is no doubt that the Vibe 5 spd tranny was built for fuel economy. Even the celica 5 spd tranny has different 3rd and 4th gear ratios than the Vibe 5 spd. One was built for sport , the other economy. If you are looking to maximize your power, go with the 6 spd, you cannot beat the versatility. I posted years ago the diference of all the gear ratios, if I can find it, I will post it again.

thats an awesome write up and appreciate it alot and if i do find a good deal for a six speed shes going in. i figure if i get rid of my tranny soon enough with the low milage my car has on it i could probabaly brake even. the car has 55000 miles on it so . i know the tranny has alot of life in it but i dont want to brake it and just want my car to be quicker.
