ya i am new here but hardle new to the auto scenei just picked up a high mileage 03 vibe gt and i am going to put tein adjustable coilovers on it, i saw c-one used to make the pillow mount and Ksport i cant seem to find them online now does anyone know if these are still being made? or do i gotta get into the PITA of making my own! also is there anything for a big brake up grade for these cars?
i've still got original suspension items, and have severe camber. the top is going towards the car, which makes it grip when the outside wheel goes flat in a turn. never done anything about it.
i specifically looked for a high mileage vibe, the vibes in my area are stilll very HIGHLY priced and spending more on a car i want to have a build on is not wise........i have 3 mustangs all set up for different things i have a 66 econoling that i got a ranger frame under and is on bags awaiting me to build floors etc and get teh 32v v8 into it i work on cars for a living high mileage means nothing in this already adapted a greddy blower to it and will begin tuning on the old motor and plan to drive it for this summer just as a daily driver car to get the tune right, then this winter i will dismantle every nuts and bolt pull the motor and build it up, rebuild the trans and replace all suspension and steering components, being a painter by trade i already have a custom colour made for it......the end result i plan to have a car thats a blast to drive handles great stops like a champ but still provides a good reliable car thats good on fuel(when not in boost) that i can do road trips in. with the fuel prices going where they are the big v8 cars are killer on the pocket book on long hauls the vibe has so much room to travel with my wife and 4 year old daughter maiden trip to tail of the dragon this time next year, i will auto cross the car and generally beat the bark off it so at the end of it all its gonna be a brand new 03... 05 was as new as i could go i did not want drive by wire
I wouldn't run pillowball mounts unless you are planning on replacing the rest of the suspension bushings.. I wonder how difficult it would actually BE to put energy poly in.. ?? Otherwise, I wouldn't do it.. Once you put the suspension and pillows all of the loads will flow into the weakest link, which will be the bushings.. Jus sayin..
as stated in my last post ill be changing everything this coming winteri have made poly mounts and bushings before and if i cant find a source for the vibe ill make em again
Wow, this sounds like a great project. I hope you stick with it and we see then end results on here.SSBC makes a big brake kit for the vibe/matrix. I was considering putting it on, but my mechanic (who tunes and tracks cars in his hobby time) said that would be unwise on a winter daily driver. He told me they work best when heated up a bit from use, and wouldn't be very good in very cold subzero winter temperatures. Just my $.02
