2004 Vibe 1zz has "knocking" noise, passenger side dash
My sister called me today, she has a knocking noise on the passenger side dash "behind" the airbag under the window. I could hear it over the phone. Its consistent most the time but sometimes it goes away then comes back she says. Then she said when the air is set to power 3 it will make a "whooshing" noise, whoosh whoosh whooosh. The knock doesnt matter what the hvac settings are always does it. the whoosh is at that air power level. I was thinking an issue with the blower motor or the vent flap changer things (that change the flaps in back to direct air to the location wanted. Any ideas?

If if it goes away when you put it on recirculate then it is that notorious flap motor gear. Cost of repair at GM dealer almost $200 parts and labor. There are numerous threads here on that issue. At least one person was able to fix it by just rotating the gear 180 degrees.

The flap (with recirc off) opens (comes forward) and just keeps banging the plastic. with recirc it opens and its all good.
