Anyone know what size wrench is required to take off the stock PCV valve on my 03 Vibe 1ZZ? My guess is 21MM but I'd like to make sure before I go off buying tools... ThanksP
The new valve is 19mm, but the one that is on there now is some goofy ridiculously large size. It's bigger then 22mm, which is the largest metric socket I tried. I narrowed it down to a 7/8 socket, seeing as the 13/16th was too small, the 15/16th was too big, so one stands to reason.. dunno what that equates to on the metric scale though. Either way, time to break out my 1/2 ratchet. Seems silly to spend any money on a socket I'm gonna use for exactly 15 seconds, so I'll see if the dudes at Autozone will be good sports and let me "see if the tool fits" before I buy it.. at which time I'll pull the damn valve with it, return it to them and say "no, screw it I'll have the dealership deal with it" and buy some oil for their troubles... seems like a fair trade!
You could always take the one that you have that is slightly too big, lay an old rag over it, and slide it onto the PCV with the rag in between. It may grip better, and save you the trip to the store.

It's 22mm. And the one the geniuses at Napa gave me was the wrong one.. Totally different thread. Figures. Might as well just get one from the dealership.
I was hearing and odd noise today. Which is totally the opposite from an even noise.Back on subject..........Anyway, I removed mine to be sure it was working since I noticed positive pressure when I took off the oil cap. I was expecting neutral or maybe negative pressure.I used a 22mm socket at first but found an O2 sensor socket that worked better because it was a deep well and was 3/8 drive. Used a 7/8 box wrench to tighten on the install.

Advance and NAPA will give you the wrong one and insist it fits, and NAPA will charge you twice as much for the privilege. The dealership was about 10 times as much as Auto Zone, IIRC. I was lucky enough to have a very rarely used 7/8 deep socket in the bottom of my toolbox.
All of my sockets were too small (I have a Metrinch set about 15 years old). I don't recall the largest socket, but I think it was a 21mm. Anyway, I had to use a my Channellock pliers to get it off.
