2003 Vibe AC problem

Post by jscelsi »

The AC blower does not work, nor does the AC switch light come on when the button is pressed. Recirculate button light does come on. Checked the fuse and it is fine, but there is no voltage at the interior fuse block on line side.Is there anything in the circuit prior to the fuse block? No references in the manual and nothing labeled on the fuse block covers other that the one 15 amp AC fuse.I've read some of the other postings for AC problems and have had no success in solving my problem. The one thing that sounds plausible is the pressure switch, but not sure where it is in the circuit and if it would cut off power at the fuse block.Any advice appreciated!

Yes I did! It turned out to be the 40 amp fuse in the interior fuse block that was bad, not blown. It is right next to the fuse marked AC. There was a poor connection where the fuse terminal and fuse block terminal touched. This caused it to heat up and eventually burned the contacts. It melted the plastic fuse block a little, but not enough to ruin it fortunately. Now I know why my wife said she smelled something burning at one time! One $4 dollar fixed it. Plus I squeezed the fuse block terminal (female end) just a little so it would make definite connection with the new fuse. No problem ever since. The unfortunate thing about the whole problem is that this fuse is not labeled as the AC fuse and only the 15 amp fuse is. I found in the other postings a schematic showing the 40 amp fuse, but the only one I could find initially was in the engine compartment fuse block. The only fuse marked AC is the 15 amp fuse.I removed the fuse block so I could see it right in front of my nose to fix it. It comes out very easily actually. Sorry no photos. Hope this helps.
