Hey guys this is my first post on here but I've been reading off this forum for years thx to u guys I installed tokico shocks and tein h tech springs Anyways I live in detroit michigan and considering the weather around here which would be better for my car the cosmo cai or sri? I want the cai but im not sure considering the hydrolocking issue... is there much difference between the 2? Overall which would you guys pick....

Welcome to GenVibe!I've had both SRI and CAI on my car. Neither of them did it for me so I got rid of both of them. I would go back to a CAI but not an SRI. You won't see a significant difference between them.

Welcome to Genvibe! There are some CAIs that can be coverted to a SRI during wetter months. I've also read posts of DIY CAI mod to SRI during wetter months. Basically it requires a hack saw, some couplings and some know how.

To be honest I want it to be maitenence free really... not havinng to have to take it in and out all the time... I wanted thw cai cause of the looks and sound but the issue is the water the roads suck here pot holes everywhereit dosent rain to bad but the potholes fill up quick and I don't wanna ruin the hole engine for some looks...
Also will the cai screw up inthe winter due to the cold air??? Is there a way to get the cai in there permanently and not have to worry about hydrolocking?
I think aem makes the bypass. It installs in between two pieces of pipe on the upper end of the intake. What happens is if the filter gets completly submerged in water, little flaps will open on the bypass and air will be sucked in through there instead of the water down at the filter. Now I would recommend a short ram, its all I have ever had on my cars and always work great, maintnence wise just clean the filter same as you would normally change out the factory style anyways. My reason is because cold airs make me nervous, not worth any risk of hydrolock. And cold air intake will be a lot more work, front bumper will need to be removed for installation or any filter cleaning. Also I believe that yes there are gains to be had with cai over a sri, but not a lot. Small gain for a lot more work and some engine risk. Not worth it imo
good luck be sure to share pics when you get it done and let us know how you like it. i also should have mentioned it would be a good idea to upgrade the filter. i would recommend my setup, i use a k&n filter and whenever i take it off for cleaning it has to dry 24 hours before oiling it, so i use the one that came with the setup in the mean time. not necessary but something to consider.
