CEL....

Post by DeClerq »

As if 3 heater core replacements wasn't enough, got a CEL today. Using my brand new scan tool (just got it last week), got codes P0171 and P0133. A few quick searches led me to clean the MAF first. It's still out of the car drying but will put back in and reset codes. Hopefully that will be that. Otherwise I'm led to believe it could be a failing O2 sensor which I think is still under the 8/80 warranty (I have an '04, 65k miles). Also read they could be triggered by really cold weather, it's been in the teens/twenties for highs the last few days, lows around zero. Car is garage kept at home but was outside all day today. Anyway, I'll just monitor the situation and see what happens I guess.

Goodluck guy. P0133 almost always point to O2 from what I've read.

P0171 could also be a cracked intake manifold gasket.

Got another P0133 today. Maybe it's time to talk to the dealer to see if the O2 sensor is covered under that 8/80 emissions warranty.

I agree with raffe , there is a tsb about the intake gasket, just make sure you buy the most recent gasket from Toyota, I believe they are on the 3rd part# for this gasket, It's not an expensive part, like $10.00 list price, It will probably take ya an hour or so to change. Way cheaper than an O2 sensor, Toyota advises this tsb be performed if certain codes appear, during cold ambient temps, before O2 sensor replacement.

The is also a TSB about the P0133 code. But they are correct about going with a new gasket first

list price is $5.79 at Toyota....$10 they are ripping you off. If you get both codes as previously stated.PO171 a lean condition, 133 O@ slow to respond....which is usually the gasket. Lastly if the car idles poorly when almost warmed up but not fully. You have a leak somewhere in the intake system...most likely. Look at the bulletin. FYI, you do not need to remove the coolant lines as it states.
