Getting My New Vibe Tomorrow

Post by Sh3pherd »

Well, I went down to the dealership yesterday to look at cars. I know the dealer there. Both my parents bought their cars there, and I used to cook at a restaurant where he ate every night. I know I can trust this guy, because he wouldn't want to loose my parents business.Anyway, after looking around the lot, a 2003 Monte Carlo SS supercharged caught my eye. I have always been fond of fast, sporty cars. A crossover like the Vibe never really appealed to me. However, Tom, the dealer, pointed out some inconsistencies with the Monte. He then pointed me towards the Vibe, telling me it was the most reliable car on the lot. It's a 2006 base model, owned by one old lady who had all of the service done at the dealership. In fact, Tom is the one who sold the car to her and bought it back from her. It only has 40,000 miles on it. Personally, I thought it was goofy looking, and I didn't want it.I went home and mulled it over, and resigned myself to looking over Craigslist. When that resulted in nothing, I decided to go back to the dealership today. Took her for a test drive, and liked what I felt. I love how the interior looks (though I wish it was leather), it handled well, ect. Only issue was the embarrassing horn. Long story short, I'm going back tomorrow to finish up the paper work and drive her home.I'm quite excited for a few reasons. My last car was a 97 Grand Am, which was riddled with mechanical problems, and ended up catching fire in my driveway. I'm happy that I will be getting something that is reliable. I'm also springing for basically full coverage insurance, so I won't have to worry about my car spontaneously combusting on me. I have a question. I am paying about $9500 for it. Does that seem like a good deal? Also, is there anything else I should know? It's this exact car, if anyone was wondering:http://www.fredbeans.com/used/...3.htm

$9500 sounded steep to me, but after checking kbb its actually an appropriate price.

Yeah, I just checked the blue book value, which put it at about $12,500. The sticker price for the car was $11,500, but the dealer is hooking me up because he knows my parents cars are starting to get old.

Oh yeah? If I may ask, what do you have done to yours? I plan on getting a system and some tint, but otherwise I am unsure. I like the stock rims, the body kits for this car are ugly, spoilers don't look right on it, and putting neons on a crossover would probably be considered ricey. Oh, and I can't find any aftermarket headlights or taillights. I suppose some smoked tails wouldn't look too bad though...

You might be surprised at how much you can come to love this car Mine makes me love it a little (or a lot) more every day! I was reading around yesterday and actually came across this post about weenie horns...http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=43672

In Jan. 2009 I sold my then 6 year old 2003 Vibe AT Power Package with 33,000 miles for $9,500. You are getting a 5 year old with 40,000 miles for the same money. I think you did o.k. Just for fun, do a nationwide search on CarMax.com for their no-hassle prices on a similar Vibe. You will be reassured that you did not overpay. The CarMax motto ought to be "Used cars at nearly new car prices".

Welcome to GenVibe! While you might miss the horsepower of the Monte Carlo SS, you'll never miss the steep insurance premiums that go along with a young person owning a 'high performance' vehicle.

Welcome... looks like a nice vibe. 2006 is a good year Too bad about the color though... J/K. Once you find out how useful a crossover can be you will be very happy with your purchase. I just hit 40,000 on my 2006 and no issues. Bought mine new and have really enjoyed it. Look forward to running it into the ground in a decade or so.Oh yeah, the horn can be fixed...I love my hella supertones, not too expensive of a mod and definitely not whimpy anymore!

They drove it 7,000 miles in 18 months. We got a great deal on a great car.I agree with the idea that you will come to really like the car. My car is a Mustang, and while I do miss the power when I'm driving the Vibe, I do not miss the gas station stops. I'm even thinking about getting an 09 or 10 Vibe GT as my next daily when my son's car is paid off. Oh, and welcome to GenVibe!

It's an '09 and will probably hit 40000 miles in a decade or so, just in time for retirement Also the sunroof on my Vibe doesn't allow my hair to blow around like in my younger days ...... because it's GONE Welcome to this great site You gotta love the sarcasm we share here Visit often. The advise we share & give here is invaluable Again WELCOME
