Do I need new struts or springs?

Post by wingman7000 »

My '03 Vibe GT makes a noise when I drive over speed bumps. It sounds loose when the springs/struts extent on the downside of the speed bump. Obviously, the faster I go the louder it is. Could it just be the boot or something or is it the whole strut/spring?

Could be a lot of things, the Top Hat or Strut mount.. Could be a bushing, but less likely... Most likely a top mount... Donno how many miles you have, but it might be a good time to do the whole car.. The springs, unless physically broken, are fine... The struts could be getting old/weak...

Yea likely the struts, I remember on one of my old cars, the pontiac grand am 1994 I replaced the struts when there was nothing but the metal pole left >.>

it's got 110K miles on it, so I figure they're getting to the end of their useful life. I just want to make sure I replace the right thing.

like sublime said, it could be the strut mount. 110k is a good amount of miles on your struts!i'm sure the springs are fine, but they're doing alot of work right now. you're gonna be bouncing around a bit if your struts are finally goingman, i love the lift from that 2zz
